I think it would be cool to live in a log cabin, and wear snow boots most of the year.

Huge lakes with no one fishing them. Woods full of grizzly bears, and moose and wolves. Huge mountains, and did I mention few people?

Actually, I believe there are less females in Alaska than men. It would be a problem, but I dunno if I would live in Alaska for a long time, maybe a year or two.

I Think Ive answered a question a little similar to this one of yours before, but it was a little different. A good or a bad thing? Depends on what you are into..your kind of lifesyle. If you are more fast paced, an on the towner city kinda person, such as someone from I dont know, New York City, L.A., Chicago, Atlanta, places like that, maybe not the place for you, because its not really that kind of place. Not to say that we dont have clubs and places to do things but I think you get the point.
And yes, It is dark most of the time in the winter, and there is what is called a seasonal depression disorder because of it, but you can get around it with special lights you can get wich are supposed to replicate the effects of the sun. It sucks..I go to work in the morning in the pitch dark, and get off work in the pitch dark. On the other hand, in the summer, we have light for almost 4 months straight, nearly 24 hours a day, which can also suck because its hard to go to sleep! lol. (and someone answered your question and said we only have summer for 2 weeks out of the year....not true, its only about 5 months but not 2 weeks). We get some nice weather in the summer, Ive often seen 80 degree weather in the summer, and its a dry heat. Not moist like in the south. In the winter, it can get very cold, although so far this year it has surprised me, seldom has it dipped below zero (kinda unusual). During this month and Jan are normaly the coldest months, with temps dipping down to the negative 40s and 50s (brrrr)
It is expensive to live here, but the money is good (plus we have no sales tax!). There are plenty of jobs, and we are a big tourist state not to mention...If you were to consider it, I would spend a while here, get a feel for it, and see how you liked it. Its really not bad at all. And its beautiful! By the way, we have AA meetings, NA meetings, and everything else a normal state has, our cities happen to be much smaller than most :)

Hey Ghost! I had the same bright idea once about living in a cabin in the woods etc. My advice is: Go up there and rent a cabin or whatever for a month. You will learn a lot and you may change your mind. It's a very romantic idea with a very realistic outcome.

Well Alaska does have its good and bad. One of the bad, is that statistics show that Alaska is the State with the highest rate for suicide. It is contributed to the fact that Alaska is dark for 6 months during the year, thus further enhancing depression. I thought this was very interesting.

If you really want to do this, get things in order, and try it. It may be something that you may regret the rest of your life for not doing this. It sounds like you'd enjoy the Countryside there. Some LOVE it. If you want to, make a plan. Good luck!

Crazy bad, it's freezing up there. Very expensive to live. Do you have a job there yet? Summer lasts about 2 weeks.
