OK I asked a question about the Golden Compass..
A lot of responses were very good but I got a few from what I can guess is fundies.. about how they will not support a non Christian movie. Also how that if you are not for god you are against god and they will not give money to that.

Do you folks who think that have any idea how silly you are?
Do you buy gas? Most of the world’s oil (if not all)comes from NON Christian nations. Do you buy goods only at Christian stores?
Do you only wear Christian clothes?
Oh yes there are places you can buy Christian computers.. made in China.

I am a Christian and it is by my good works and my good deeds my faith is shown not buy what things I buy.

Do you really think that you can live in a total Christian world?
Christ said we are in the world but not of it. So the things of this world will not affect us it is what is in our hearts that matters

I actually saw The Golden Compass ( and read the book).
I thought it was very entertaining. As a former believer (Roman Catholic)...I saw very little that a child might perceive as a connection to religion. I 'm old enough to know ( over 50) children need more than a book or movie to turn them from something that has been drummed into them since birth. If Christians are going to cry wolf at every artistic piece produced...they're in for a busy millenium. Minds are changing toward all religions and spiritual endeavors.
Our young people have access to information worldwide. The best thing is to teach true humanistic values that transend culture, country , or race. Teach compassion and respect for life and liberty. Teach to love and care for your fellow human being. These concepts will withstand any assualt because they are founded on reason not acient text and fear-mongering.

Ooh- you were exactly right when you said that we are called to live in the world, but not be of it. I think that even worse than financially supporting a non-Christian organization is not interacting with non-Christians. Who did Jesus spend most of his time with? He spent time with the so-called "bad people." Obviously, it would be impossible to separate ourselves from the entire rest of the world just to avoid financially supporting a non-Christian company. Will I go out and see The Golden Compass? Probably not. I do think that there is a huge difference in buying the things that we need or interacting with and loving people who are not believers and financially supporting something that is anti-Christian.

Shine on.........but, Where did Christianity come from in the first place...........? The history.........? Christ was not even white & the Bible even said man was not to have long hair, we are not to kill...........duality going on here or what? I do understand the consept of discernment...........but some of this is way off. The book was written by men mortal men. Every one puts so much emphasis on learning but most no not where any of this started Sumer, Egypt ...etc. Get a good encyclopideia and do some research.

A movie is pure entertainment. It is not something that you actually need, and if it was, there are other movies out there which are equally entertaining which can be substituted for it.

This particular movie is NOT just another movie made by someone who just so happens to be not a Christian. It is trying to teach children that religion in general, and Christianity in particular, is bad and does bad things. Why support someone who is broadcasting an anti-Christian message?

Do you donate money at the Mosque where they are teaching death to all Christians? Probably not. You have other charities that you can donate your money to. Same thing here.

I totally agree with you. Paying for something thats made by a non-christian will not offend God, I'm sure.

But I just wanted to ask; I haven't seen the Golden Compass yet, is it worth seeing? If it is, then I might just do so.

Amen. There are extremists in every religion. I saw that Some Christian groups will boycott it. OOOOOO. Well, I am a Christian and I tell you what, The passion of the Christ, The DaVinci COde and others, take them with a grain of salt. It is entertaniment. Come on. I wish that these extremists would chill out. They do not speak for me. I like having sex and drinking beer but I doubt I go to Hell for that. Come on people.

They know everything isn't Christian. It's just trying to promote Christians over non-Christians. You know that. Just like Americans try to buy from America to help our economy. Same thing. Christ also said to spead the word. Christians care for others including non-christians because they don't want them to spend eternity in hell.
Anyway, why do you care???

Those who are spiritually weak are vulnurable to spirits attaching themselves onto them via the entertainment media.... dont forget we are told that what you take in through your eyes is what you become, Job made a covenant with his eyes on the issue of lusting after young women.... the same could go for occultic movies....... The eyes are the window to your soul... protecting those who dont know how to repel the evil one is a good idea!!!!

My friend,
Let me put this "golden compass" thing another way for you.
I do not want my children exposed to something as vile as this movie, nor do I want them reading the book series upon which the movie is based. I will not pay for it, because I believe it is trying to teach my children that God is evil, that the Church is evil, and we should actively try to kill God so we can all live in peace. If you read the trilogy, this is exactly what hapens.

Purchasing gasoline is a necessary thing right now. Purchasing a ticket to this incredibly pro-atheist movie is not necessary.

Does this help?
