Whither they be K (with adaptor) or F mount, the lenses of the Nikormat era will fit a Nikon D40, D40x, or D80, but with limited abilities.
You definitely won't have autofocus and you also won't have metering on the D40 & D40x.
Here's a chart that shows lens compatibility with different Nikon lens generations and different Nikon cameras.

This doesn't sound right. The K-mount is a Pentax mount, while Nikons use the F-mount.
If you have F-mount lenses, they may mount on the D40 and D40x or D80, but they won't meter if they're the older Nikon lenses.
If you have K-mount lenses, they will fit the modern Pentax digitals and work fine (in manual focus).

Pentax introduced the K-mount in 1975. At that time Nikon had been using its own lens mount for several years.
There may be a K-mount to Nikon body adapter but you'll have no camera-lens interaction so you'll be using manual focus and stop-down metering.

You probably mean F-mount.
Here's the Nikon Lens Compatibility Chart -- it will tell you what you want to know.

Truly a k mount? K mount is a pentax mount, primarily.
