It benefits anyone who is too weak to make it through life with out a crutch like that. People that can't accept death and those that cannot determine right and wrong for themselves. Basically it helps sociopaths.

If it is the Christian faith, it has through organization like the Salvation Army, Mother Teresa's Sister Mercy, the Red Cross (which began as a Christian organization) benefitted the poor and needy across the world in times of disaster, famine, war and other needs. Millions of "poor" owe their lives to such organization.

The Christian church runs more orphanages and schools then any other organization in the world, bringing shelter and education to millions of children who would have no future without them.

The Christian church provides more food, clothing and shelter to the needy of the world then any other organization.

The Christian church runs more hospitals, free clinics, and takes more doctors into impovered nations to offer free services then any other organization.

Most Christian churches maintain a "benevolent fund" from which they frequently help families in financial need with money for utility bills, car repairs, rent, medical bills, etc.

When an earthquake that measured 8.0 and lasted over 3 minutes rocked central Peru in August of this earth, it was a Christian church (La Camino De Vida) that was the first on scene with food, water and tents for the thousands displaced in the disaster. Out of their own pocket, they have build three refugee camps, and are helping the thousands housed there to build new homes and businesses. (Have seen the work - excellent effort)

And that is only on the physical side. It does not mention that times when the Christian faith is there for spiritual and emotional comfort in the times of death or loss. The times when the Christian church helds with programs to overcome addictions. The times when the Christian church offers counseling and support to keep a marriage and family together. The times when the Christian church is there to celebrate with weddings and baptisms. The times when the Christian church is there to extend forgiveness and end to put a life back together after sin destroys.

Multitudes who are not the people "in power" benefit from organized religion everyday. Few, if any, of those things could be done by just an individual. It takes the organiztion of the church to do them. I am not aware of an atheist group which offers any of those benefits to the world.

Hi miche
Man is so strong that he can do anything if he has will power.
to get that will power we generally follow the religion in one way .
to get this i ll give u example.
A person got a disease that could not be cured by many physicians he asks for the suggestionsand advice from his neighbours ,relatives and so on. every one says that if u do this u may get some relief if u go there u may get cured and he follows every one suggestion but could not get cured some one says that u come with me ill take u near a doctor he can cure u as i got cured once when i got a similar disease.
by belief in his friends advice he and as alast option he goes and gets medicine andlistes to the doctors words that you will be ured with in a week and u ll be as good as you were earlier.
listening this he got the confidence bcoz the confidence with which the doctor said that he will be cured he believed and took the medicines and to the surprise he was cured really within a week. later he went to the doctor and asked what was the reason why he could not be cured forthat many days and now he got cured so quickly.
doctor answered that it was his assurance and the persons belief that he will be cured if he takes the medicine that made the difference. to the surprise the doctor said that he gave only sugar pills with out any medicine.
by this story we should know that it i belief that we can do any thing.
It i through god that we make ourselves fit to to something .its human tendency that with out any reason we donot do anything.so inorder to devolop our will power we take the reason of god and try for that. otherwise we dont .
I dont think that belief is only for power or those people who have power .it is through which every one can be powerful.

One can only assume that your definition of POWER is the one that can build the biggest bombs. In some religions, it makes otherwise just plain teenage boys martyrs and rewards them with a whole host of virgin girls . . . In some kind of Land of Oz. If ONLY they are so devout in their beliefs that they will actually commit suicide and kill some more people simultaneously. So, to answer your question . . . Themselves; the best bomb making boys.

There was have been studies done that have proven that belief can play a big part in a person's recovery from serious illness. No they don't refer to miracles but to the effects of belief itself. You might say: Belief - It does a body good.

It gives you a place in the general order of things, not to mention a sense of what is right and what is wrong... until you realize that you don't need somebody else to give you a place, that you are ALREADY part of the universe, and that the sense of what is right and what is wrong is quite relative and what you understand of it is vastly different from what the gold-rich religious fathers understand of it.

It gives people something to believe in, hope for, and look forward to. For some people this is what they need, others don't need this. It also gives them a way to live out their life and have morals and opinions made up for them by a book, again - others don't need this and can stand on their own two feet.

I dont think just because a person is a believer that they are you using there religion to somehow empower themselves. If you are referring to politicians for example, that politician would be hard pressed to be elected if he or she was known to be a non-believer.

Mary had a different view of things:

And Mary said:
"My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants forever,
even as he said to our fathers."
