Well, I don't know if I would call it a boycott. I don't plan on going, because it doesn't sound like a movie I would enjoy. There are quite a few movies I don't go to for the same reason.
I don't think you care what movie I see or don't.
I'm sure the movie industry will show it.
Sorry I'm so petty. I'll work on it.

Actually economic boycotts have proven to be extremely effective. When many people called for a boycott of french products their wine industry suffered greatly. When some people threatened a boycott to stores like Walmart, that forbade its employees from saying Merry Christmas, the store backed off the policy.
It isnt petty to refuse to give your money and support to someone or something you find offensive. It is a legit form of protest.
Why do you care if someone chooses to boycott a movie? It is their right. How does it affect you?
When you pay money to support something it benefits the person or company you are supporting. If the company or person is doing something you strongly disapprove of why would you want to do something that benefits them?
I plan to see The Golden Compass, but I completely understand why some christians will not. This isnt the same thing as Harry Potter. That was a fictional character they were assigning satanic qualities to that just werent really there. This author has openly called his book a way to get people away from religion. It was an attack against religion and if a christian finds that offense then they have a right to not give this guy any support.

When I found out Shell had killed poor Nigerians to build a pipeline through their lands I stopped buying gas at Shell stations. This did not close down Shell - they sell a commodity, and didn't even notice my absence. But I did. When my money and my patronage go to those things that best express my dearest values I believe they are inbued with an energy that is itself the agent of change over a whole life of trying to consume and contribute responsibly.
That said, The Golden Compass looks good fun and even like it has a great message - it's about right and wrong and the "god" in that story I don't believe in any more than I believe in Zeus or a tribal jackal god. I'm far more concerned about making sure my money isn't supporting the clear-cutting of old growth forests than that it contradicts my own intellectual propositions about the supernatural. But it matters what I'm funding, absolutely.

I have no idea what you are talking about. So you want to see a movie and you think I care. I don't care. Go see it. Buy popcorn if you like. I will NOT be outside protesting or boycotting or whatever you think Christians are doing. So, some may not like the movie. So what??? You want us to Get Over Ourselves? OOOOOoooooKaaaiiiyyyy.

Hey Atheist !!!!!!
I don't care about the Movie, and I have not heard of any Boycott.
And the Fact that you even had to write or ask this question prooves that you are wrong saying that no one will listen to anything we had to say, If that was true, you would not have had to write or ask this question.
Soooo. You get over yourselves, Now...who is petty ?
Sheesh...
You don't like it..Tuff..raise an Army and do something about it.

Ha...you made me laugh. I'm a Christian and I'm not going to boycott this movie...I'm going to see it on the 8th. I think it is a good ministry opportunity actually. It will open up some questions about what the metaphors in the movie are representing...that will open up chances for me to teach about the true about God.

Umm, okay? Just to clarify, what movie specifically are you talking about?
Edit; 'the golden compus'? Why would anyone want to boycott that film? Isn't just another fantasy film?

Not every Christian thinks like that.
I don't go to movies I have bills and young kids.
Just to ADD:I would think I am strong enough in my faith to watch it without it influencing my belief.
