I've never had a cat, so I don't know how to procede with this. Yesterday I heard like a baby was crying, but it was a cat that apparently was fighting with another one. I don't know if the cat could have a disease or something but I would like to give the cat some food because today is still there, waiting perhaps for the other cat? Any thoughts please?

you can feed it or you can take it to a no-kill animal rescue

if your really care for it, take it to the vet for vaccinations and a neuter or spay, even if you don't bring it in your home.

I think you may have heard them mating. They tend to scream when they do that. The cat is probably still there because that's the "hook up" area. You could look up rescue groups in the area (if in doubt call Petsmart and they can recommend one) and they will come out and trap the cat, send it to the vet, fix it and send it on it's way. Just remember if you don't want a cat - don't feed it. Cats are super smart and will kill a bunny or rat for food - I'm sure it's not starving. I hope this helped a little.

You can feed it and even provide some type of shelter for it (a box turned on one side with some blankets will do). If you want to keep the cat, you need to take it to the Vet and have it vaccinated, tested for Feline AIDS and Leukemia, Dewormed, treated for fleas, neutered/spayed etc. If not, you can find a local rescue group or no-kill shelter that will take the cat.

Also, remember if you start to feed the cat it may start to rely on you for food, so once you start, you shouldn't stop. You could also have the cat spayed/neutered, vaccinated etc and then put him back outside if you can't take him, but if you can not care for him a shelter would be best so he could find a nice home.

If you put out food for it, you will have all the stray cats in the neighborhood within a few days. In a few weeks you will have more kittens then you could believe. My neighbors did that and one day I counted 22 cats and kittens in their yard. It was a nightmare as they all came over and used my bushes to crap and pee in. I was forced to catch them with a live animal trap and get rid of them in the country. They received 2 tickets from animal control before they got the message not to feed strays. Thank god they moved and took the problem with them.

First of all how do you know it is a stray? Second, are you prepared to keep feeding it if it becomes dependent on you for food?

Contact your local shelter for options on how to deal with feral cats (here in Oregon we have the feral cat coalition) they may have programs to trap cats and spay and neuter them and provide them with shots and keep them healthy if you are willing to commit to feeding them.

If you think the cat is sick you should leave it alone and contact animal control. There are diseases cats carry that can infect people.

Best bet is to be cautious and don't try to pick it up or pet it if it doesn't seem friendly.

The cat could have been "mating" if you know what I mean. They really do make quite a racket when they do it! LOL. Unless you want to likely be the cat's new owner, I wouldn't feed it. If you feed it, it will likely stay. If you do want to keep it, I'd take it to a vet as soon as you could. There are all sorts of diseases that it could have.

All stray cats can use food and water. Diseases that can be spred from cat to human aren't all that common. Most are cat to cat. Don't be afraid of him.
