Traffic lights are the automated crossing guard of life. They ensure that, when followed, people don't get hit by cars, cars don't get hit by other cars, and everybody gets their turn in crossing the street. They also help move traffic along so that not just one road or direction has the right of way, but instead it constantly changes the right of way so everybody gets where they're going. Sometimes they can be frustrating, like when they break down, or when your light is green but you still get hit by someone running a light. But the pros that are practical and safe outweigh by far the cons of occasional inconvenience.

Traffic lights control the speed of traffic through congested areas, are set at proper timing to let pedestrians cross without danger of being run over, afford traffic on cross streets to move along as well..Pedestrian traffic should be controlled with walk and no walk signs , so that traffic can turn into side streets unencumbered. Violators should be arrested for jaywalking. There are no cons if both the driver and pedestrian are responsible people.
