Last night my husband found a grocery bag with cookies and a pie and an envelope to ___ from ____..actually names but I don't want to put them up! It isn't for us and we asked the mail carrier if they knew anyone around here by the name and they said they didn't. So we have no idea who this was supposed to go to! I don't know if we should open the envelope up to see if there is an address of something if a check is inside. i don't want to open someone else's mail but I also want to find out who it is supposed to go to!! I don't have time to go knocking door to door, it's cold out, i have a toddler and my husband is at work all day.
What do I do!?!?

Go ahead an open the envelope and see if that gives you any clues.

I once had a friend leave me a plate of brownies in our mailbox (big ol' mailbox) as a thank-you. She left a message for me to "check your mailbox!", but I didn't get it until later. Turns out the postman thought I had left the brownies for him -- and took them! (I had great mail services for several months after that, so it was all to the good!)

O just keep the dam goody bag for your self, the mail man don't know the person, so what are you going to do, just let it sit there and rot, and hope someone comes knocking at your door and say excuse me, but you have my goody bag, and I want it? Or better yet I'll give you my address so you can send it to me, I know what to do with it!!!

How long have you lived at your current address? If you haven't been there very long, it's probably for whoever lived there before you. Maybe you could ask your landlord or the people you bought the property from who lived there before you.

You could do an internet reverse lookup on your address to find out who lived there. (if they had a phone hooked up, it should show up)

Open the envelope. I had the same thing happen to me and I had to open the box so I could get their number and call them.

you should open the envelope and try to find out who it was for. you are only trying to help and otherwise they will never get it at all so how would they even know you opened it?

open it. It's not mail unless it went thru the post office.
