At 17, I was pretty naive and by 22, I was probably still the same. You have had the chance to travel. I won't argue about being too young. If you bound and determined to do it, I can understand. Besides it is soo bloody cold there in England. hahahaha

There is a requirement in moving to Thailand permanently, it is that you are self sufficient. You will have to show income and a balance of at least 80,000 baht or more.

You might try becoming a permanent resident first or get your toefl certification and teach in Thailand.

Bottom line is that you cannot be a burden to the system. And would have to show self sufficiency.

The web link below will give a good idea of what it takes.

This is a service website, I am not saying to use it. Check out www.thaiwebsites.com for other references. Such as government websites that you will have to contact eventually. It would probably help to contact a service to guide you through the process and make the transition easier for you.

Giving up your English citizenship is the last thing you should do. Give that a few years before you do it.

Good luck to you and I hope it works out.

ok, i am not going to make a mistake here since you are just 17.

why not you give it a shot for a year? who know you might not like it!

just like me! i am in japan, after a year i started to hate it. after 5 yrs i hated it so much, but it too late for me to leave. wife won't leave her country!!!!
i ask my self, what was my image of japan before i came here? what about the reality? d-am-n what have i done to my life!!!

you must understand that short term visiting and the a real life are totally difference. man! i wish somebody told me that before i move to japan!

about the visa, no you are not going to get the citizenship.
most of the country in asia won't offer you a citizenship unless you are a well know 17 yrs old boy.
if you get marriage (which i don't recommend) you will be able to apply for spouse visa.
i don't think being in Thailand is the problem for you
if you get marriage with her you will be able to be there for as long as you want, if you don't you still have another way to get a taste of life in thailand for a year or 2 by apply for a "working holiday visa".
just visit thai embassy's web site in UK, you will get all the visa info you need.

i recommend you to get a "working holiday visa" and go to your dream land for a year or 2. then leave it before it turn to your biggest nightmare!

young man, first you need to grow up. as for the visa no your not going to get one just by marrying a Thai girl. how do you plan to support yourself here? get your education, and try teaching here sometime down the road, since your only 17 the girl i hope is around the same age as you. she also needs to complete her education. teaching is one of a few visas you can obtain at a young age. I doubt you have the money to invest in a business.

another thing i like to add, do you think the family of this girl is going to let you marry her at 17? your going to have to show you have means to support her, and I am sure her parents are going to want their daughter to finish schools including university before she even thinks about marriage. also for a spousal visa your need to show you have income or money in savings of no less the 400,000 baht that has been transfer here from the usa.

Hi,

Your first problem is employment. without employment you are going to have a difficult time to move to Thailand.

why not think about schooling now, get a better job and be able to take good care of her in the future?
