Honestly, I'm not sure how I would answer that. I guess, if people were to "make it up" it would be a lot easier and everyone would get what they wanted. But think about this instead....
If Christianity had been "made up" would the savior of the human race have been born in a stinky cattle stall?
If Christianity had been "made up" would the first witnesses of the empty tomb have been women (not acceptable witnesses in that culture 2000 years ago)?
If Christianity had been "made up" would the Messiah's disciples have admitted to being cowards, disserters and doubters?
If Mary had not conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit and not been a virgin, would she have watched in agony as her son suffered a tortuous death or would she have told the authorities it was all a hoax in order to save her son's life?
If Christianity had been "made up" would the apostle Paul have gone from hunting down and aiding in killing every Christian he could find, to becoming the great apostle after Jesus "knocked some sense into him" on the road to Damascus?

Christianity would be much simpler if it was made up. For example, why did a blood atonement have to be made in order for us to overcome sins so we could enter heaven? Alot of the stuff in Christianity just couldn't be made up - it's too strange.

I think, that if was completely made-up, it would be consistent and grounded in reality than it currently is. But, unfortunately, they decided to write down what the hallucinations told them to, verbatim...

It would be the same, since it is made up.
