I totally agree with you.for a start people are not satisfied with one car many have more than one, then when a new mobile phone or computer or anything new comes out it is replaced by a so called "better version".There is tremendous waste in this world and the utmost greed of people want, want wanting all the time never satisfied!!

It's about control and power. Nurture the fear until the masses are ripe for the picking.
The "oil for food" crowd at the UN wants 82 billion a year from the US to "help poor countries deal with global warming".
An organization that can't pay it's parking tickets in NYC is going to redistribute our wealth and save the world......
Look for taxes, bans, and new legislation aimed squarely at your wallet and your ability to make a living while the elite jet off to Bali to "discuss global warming issues"even though man's effect has yet to be empirically proven.
Hypocrisy abounds and the current form is "green".
C02 has been ruled a pollutant by the EPA.
That means the very air we exhale is a pollutant and can be taxed.
Carbon credits are simply a pass for the wealthy to continue their carbon orgy while lining their pockets with our money.

i've got replaced my carbon footprint albeit in strategies i might in no way have envisioned. 3 years in the past i replaced into green concious yet nevertheless left a reasonably great print with my SUV and wasteful power prepare. I washed and dried clothing after purely one placed on, left the A/C on as quickly as I wasn't living house and that i drove my SUV everywhere, even to the corner industry. This all replaced while my frustration with US politics and predatory comercialism reached a factor the place I fled the rustic. Now I stay in, of all places, China. Now I dont stress a motor vehicle, I trip an electric motorbike. I dont wash my clothing till they want them and that i line dry them (no dryers in so China), My new spouse has pushed living house the will for water/means conservation, not out of any green schedule, yet somewhat from an entire life of being too undesirable to cope with to pay for such luxuries. the certainty that we are able to cope with to pay for that's beside the point, it incredibly is only not needed. i've got discovered the lesson that severe power intake is a cultural disese. definite, China is the main polluted place I even have ever lived. The undesirable air high quality sometime is so undesirable my eyes burn and the poisonous waters have me swearing off fish and warding off untreated ingesting water. do not blame the essential guy or woman although, the concern back is a societal one. Deng Xiao Peng informed the masses that to be wealthy is excellent after which he bumped off any barriers to unscrupulous techniques of achieveing stated glory. China is increasing on the fumes and exhusts from 10000 factories all dumping unhindered. in line with possibility the question being asked must be directed at a greater entitiy. Say governments and mega firms. the essential guy is doing what he can.

It's great, but I am fed up with it. You're right, it has become a fashion statement, but I guess it doesn't matter if it gets people to start thinking about their effect on the environment, and trying to reduce the damage. It's a case of the right thing for the wrong reasons. Let's just hope that it isn't a brief 'fad'.

What Dr Jello said!!
Every living thing does something with carbon. That's why they are called carbon-based life forms. These doom-mongers have made life itself a form of pollution. They need to reduce their own carbon footprint by shutting up and going away. Preferably somewhere not on this planet.

In theory it would be great for the environment. In practice, it's just a way to justify the lack of attention being given to the need to reduce greenhouse gases.
The whole concept of purchasing carbon credits to offset ones' emissions is merely a "fee" to continue to do business as usual. Ultimately, there will be no reduction in ghg emissions as a result of the carbon credits offset.

They don't believe in 'religion' (so they say) so they worship the ground (they call it Mother Earth) we all walk on acting like if we don't mess it up there will be something here for future generations. Personally I don't think one human being does much damage. Maybe a few billion, maybe, but not one so it really doesn't make any difference just ignore them.
I have learned to ignore nimrods a long time ago :-)

the best answer is to set a good example, save yourself money, save energy, and live happliy without buying into the consumer media fashion guilt industry
which is just bending an unsustainable premise of unconstrained industrial growth to try and fit the reality of our finite planet with 6bn humans aspiring to hollywood lifestyles.
we have no choice but to live within the carrying capacity of our planet - simple common sense really.

Whatever ridicluous hypocrisy it takes to get it started, the point is, getting started!
My mother was too broke to pay for extra energy; my stepmother was a big-time post-1970's-gas-crisis conservationalist; I continued the tradition.
Now, my energy-efficiency lighting-expert boyfriend is hot into saving the world... and he helps the government get it right, in the business world.
But I'm the one who turns out all extra lights and appliances!
So, if it takes some crazy, bassackwards media frenzy to get us ALL to jump on the bandwagon, then so be it!
I'm tired of trying to make a difference on my own, so come on and work this out!

If you have bothered to figure out what your carbon footprint is(tons or trees to plant) then you need to get a life. If you've actually sent these scam artists any money then your a fool.
