You can trigger a camera on the opposite side if you are travelling stupid speed.

You were probably going faster than 39 then.

Good news for you is you wont get a ticket for that.

Bad news for us is it wont then deter you fron speeding in a built up area again.

Slow down in town for gods sake.

People often make the incorrect assumption that cameras facing you don't record and that you can not get fined for this.
WRONG most can and do record and you can get prosecuted. If the camera is digital then you will probably get the appropriate fine and points if it is of the older type and need a manual film in there to be active you may be lucky.

Start saving you are probably going to get a ticket. Be patient if you wait more than 14 days you may have escaped.

PS funny how everyone always says they were doing 39 no matter still well inside the tolerance for prosecution.

You could try slowing down but that option probably never occurred to you far better to blame those that sited the camera and everyone else but yourself, remember if you hit a child at 39 they die at 29 they have a chance of survival.

The fact that it flashed indicates that it was the older type of Gatso (not a digital one, which don't flash).

You don't mention if there was traffic coming the other way. If so, it was probably flashing at them. Other possibilities are wildlife that triggered the camera.

I believe that some Gatsos can get oncoming traffic, but I've never seen it happen. Also, a lot of them don't have film in, as they're expensive to maintain and operate, so I reckon you'll get away with it.

A lot of people have posted smug comments about speeding on this site, but no-one's perfect and the best of us stray over the limit sometimes. Consider it an educational experience.

If anyone says they never break the speed limit, I don't believe them.

it depends. If the camera was on the other side of a central reservation, it won't have clocked you. If there were white striped lines on ur side of the road and it was just on the other side of a normal road then it might have got you. If they don't send you out a NIP within 2 weeks, you can't be prosecuted. If you've still heard nothing in 3 weeks relax cos you're in the clear!

Depends if it was one of the new cameras that cover both sides of the road!
Personally I think you deserve whatever you get! We have laws for good reason!
Night-time is no excuse! I drive home late every night and rarely see another car or people but I still watch my speedo, (If anything I watch it more as it's easy to drift upwards if it appears quiet) you just never know when someone might be out walking their dog or if some drunk is going to stagger out into the road!

Gatso cameras don`t register the speed of oncoming traffic, however the new ones, and I can`t remember the name of them, do.
Whichever 39 in a 30 zone deserves a ticket.

speed limits are there for a reason. The people who determine what the speed limit is look at the surrounding area. Residential districts have a lower speed limit then commercial districts and lower still then rural areas.

the facts are:
1 out of 10 people hit by a car going 30mph will die.
1 out of 10 people hit by a cat going 40mph will live.

10mph makes a HUGE difference.

Its not your life that you are putting at risk by speeding. It is everyone else's. Do you want to be charged with vehicular homicide?

So next time you get in your car, look at the speed limit, look around you, realize why the limit is there, and follow it.

Just because you don't get a ticket for going over by 5mph doesn't mean you aren't being reckless.
