Hand/Eye coordination is what you are working on. If you can get non toxic markers paint crayons and allow your little one to sit on a cardboard or similar object, he or she will present you with a personal masterpiece. I collect them from my two-they love the interaction too. Go for and be safe. They make really personal gifts for Grandparents and others too...

Yes. Absolutely. Crayons, the thicker ones. Finger paints, the washable kind. Anything that is non-toxic is great.
Try out a bunch, find out what they like and stick with that mostly but try to introduce new things occasionally to keep it fresh for them.
Art is a great way for a child to learn to express themself without needing to yell.

Of course. Get him/her crayons, markers (they make some that only draw on certain paper so they can't make a mess), and even paint. Also, they make something called aquadoodle- it has these markers/pens that you fill with water and you draw of this big pad that you lay out on the floor- it's fun for children of all ages.
Here is a link to the aquadoodle (they make 2 different ones): http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5679536

any child loves to doodle or draw even if they cant hold the pen or pencil right and its good for brain development, anything crafts and painting or drawing is good for then and it keeps them occupied, for things like that to be fun you cant constantly be correcting them let them just do what they want with some guidance so they dont start drawing on walls or other things but its proven that parents that spend one on one time with their children and do things like crafts and drawing and reading that they have a higher IQ later in life

non toxic finger paints are good.you can use pudding and such, but teach them not to eat them so you can move onto clay, and other things.remember use praise liberally.my son is autistic and it was the key to helping learn.having Asbergers was a challenge but art is another language.2 you and your child, enjoy!

they would parent would not. besides he is still at that age where he'll examine new things by putting them in his mouth. if you decide to go with that gift purchase the supplies that are age appropriate.
