I have been shopping around and looking into getting a barrel for my encore for varmint hunting. I was curious if anyone out there has experience with both the .204 ruger and the 22-250? If you do, can you give me some pros and cons for each. Thanks for your help

I want to know pros and cons of each barrel, ballistic info, etc.. Just to tell me to pick a certain barrel to does not help. Thanks

I wanted to add that the biggest animal I plan on shooting with this barrel will be a coyote

i have a Ruger MK-II bolt action .204.....its a GREAT varmit gun....super flat shooting SUPER tight groups....virtually no drop at 300+ yards (when sighted in at 200) and is about 2inches high at 100 yards...I shoot the Hornady V-MAX 32grain cartridges they're rated at 4,225 fps at the muzzle....oh yeah and about the barrel of the rifle heating up....any bullet that leaves the barrel of a rifle at 3,500+ feet per second....is GONNA get hot....predators are ONE of the most keen animals of all to hunt...your not trying to see how many shells u can shoot at one time...your hunting....BEST OF LUCK!

The 22-250

Sorry but I can't help with the .204. but the .22-250 is an awesome round. Very flat shooting, execllent at retaining energy, and superbly accurate. The only bad thing that I can think of is that it heats up barrels fast, but it still isn't that bad.

could prob get the 22/250 hotter than 3800.choice should depend on varmint size.in scotland 22/250 is an excellent calibre for vermin and smaller size deer species .the 2o4 is a very hot round too and good for smaller species but the 22/250 would be a safer bet for larger varmint.
