Knowing Gnostic: I have a problem with fanaticism regardless of which religion it stems from.

blueridge: Your ad hom attack and red herring diversion lend nothing to your argument. Either answer the question or do not. I'm not asking a question about Americans right now. When I do, I will let you know.

Goldenchilde: exactly. I'd like to see someone contest this and other facts. I lived in a country in which the southern part was mostly muslim and this is NOT the attitude of the poor muslim fisherman people. I also traveled to Indonesia and have known people who have lived there for years and there IS a problem there. I would like to know why the 'rich' American or European muslims have seemingly not addressed these issues. Or, if they have, where...?

L'Chaim: As I understand it, the majority of Islam is moderate, not fanatical, so if this is the case, then the majority should act. Also, the 'rich' muslims certainly have the money to make their opinions known, if they wish to.

Knowing gnostic: that should have been... I have a problem with child abuse and fanaticism and with heinous acts committed by anyone, regardless of their religion.

Toor: FYI . . . I worked for an organization in Thailand called 'We Train' and I personally helped women and children who had survived abuse and forced prostitution. I have condemned it and I have done something about it? Have you?

In defense of Islam, where do you think they could find a newpaper to publish their condemnations, or a television station willing to air the condemnation? We get the news we want -- violence, violence, and more violence!

Blueridgeliving got it right! I am heartsick over the reports of child abuse right here in my own neighborhood in middle America.

My fear is that the Christians will call out the Crusaders again.

It seems that governments are the ones who define what child abuse is by their made up laws. There is a call now in a state in northeastern US which is trying to pass a law that will make even light spanking illegal. In my opinion, child abuse is any kind of physical beating which is painful, continious, seen and uncontrolled. This also will includes Emotional abuse with the constant yelling, putting down, criticizing, swearing and such. Forgive me if I forget a few things here. I personally don't have much influence to do anything about it but sureky as a Muslim I'm totally against child abuse. I am raising 5 kids of my own, aged 7-18.
The Muslim people who have high authority are the ones who should definately get the message out in media and explain the Islam point of view. Here is an excerpt on the topic;

The Islamic family system brings the rights of the husband, wife, children, and relatives into a fine equilibrium. It nourishes unselfish behavior, generosity, and love within the framework of a well-organized family system. The peace and security offered by a stable family unit is greatly valued by Islam, and it is seen as essential for the spiritual growth of its members. A harmonious social order is created by the existence of extended families and by treasuring children.

Muslim views of human rights are not like that of the sane world. In the dar el Islam muslims practice what is called "thighing" on young boys and girls. Even their pseudo-prophet Mohammad consimated his marriage to Aisha at nine years old. I don't think that you are going to hear them say that he was wrong or that was child abuse. So if that disgusting act was not considered child abuse what is? In 2002 the Saudi's let girls burn to death in a school that was on fire. The religious police prevented the girls from leaving the burning building because they did not have their headscarves on. As far as the term "moderate muslim". What do the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and a moderate muslim have in common? They are all fictional beings. Despite how many people want to believe they really exist.

I think you DO see it, you just don't know what the religion of the people fighting it is. Child abuse is not something that Muslims condone as a rule. Any person of any relgion can fall away from that which is Godly by committing child abuse. I do not know if any Muslim leaders ever condemned it - in America or anywhere else, but I believe they do know what abuse is - and it is relative to the cultures in which they live.

This has been my whole idea to confront muslims to see and think rationally, There was a post on Family by a women who has asked why muslim women should stay home, and this is comming from a women.

Well the possible reasons according to me is:
The community is so closed that to think outside of them can be a crime, fear of stigme, they can call you infidel, there are passages that say "do not get into unwanted controversy or ask questions about your faith"
Muslims will not condemn because if they did it goes to say that their belief is wrong, what they are following is wrong.
The community will behead them and chances for being called an outcaste is what is feared.

There are many in muslims countries who have given up Islam completely but pretend to be following rituals and this is how they survive. NO other go. this is a sad state of affairs of women in such countries.

Only ex muslims have condemned it, read "Infidel" by Ayan Ali, its a great book

Muslims are getting abused everywhere starrting from Iraq, Afghanistan , Palestine, India, Philipines. and if the Muslims try to condemn the child abuse (which are mostly done by Christian priests) they could get into more trouble. So they keep their mouths shut.

Are you referring to girls being third class citizens? How they can be molested, forced to be married off at early ages, etc?

I think that's just a part of many many cultures around the world and still considered the norm. Females are still considered not be the same, and girls even lower.

you may verify out risk-free Horizon's baby abuse statistics, and you will see that around 40% are male abusers and around 50% woman (in keeping with probability by means of fact of postpartum melancholy and that there are lots of of single mothers now with out dads around?). that's approximately even. and how did you determine that woman genital mutilation and rape take a backseat to baby abuse? that's idiotic. that's often woman little ones that have their genitals mutilated besides. you're patently a woman-hater and located the only violent crime that girls human beings dedicate somewhat better than men and exaggerated it. you should deal with your subject concerns in the direction of women human beings considering the fact which you're only part of the subject innovations-blowing now.
