I think it's awesome. I (yes, a girl) started hunting at 9 years old and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've also fished all my life. I live in the south, so it isn't quite as unheard of as it would be in some places, but people still seem to look at me funny when I talk about hunting, or if I'm in my camo. It's kinda funny though, because I'm still in high school, and I'm alot more into the outdoors than my boyfriend is. And, everybody thinks hunting is just for boys.. puhleez. haha:] I say keep on hunting, and show the men how it's done. =D

Being a female hunter I know where you are coming from. I get the same looks and wonder the same thing. I am also very active in the sportsman's club we belong to. I coach archery for kids and belong to the shotgun trap league (we travel to other clubs through out the entire winter The looks the men from the other clubs give me are really not that nice til I start shooting then they all want ot know what I am shooting and try it out). Most male hunters will admit they like the idea of female hunters but alas they don't know how to treat them...should it be like one of the guys or should they open the door on the blind so you can enter.
Just keep going and enjoy yourself.....don't worry about what others think.

My wife is the PR person for a non-profit organization and is often on the local TV news in business attire during the week. We both serve in many community and civic organizations.
People have a perception of her that is shattered when they come to the house and see the African oryx mount above the fireplace and see her name on the plaque as the hunter.
The media has done a good job of setting people's negative perception of who hunters are...have fun changing that perception!

Hey if it keeps you off the phone and out from behind the wheel I'm all for it.
I"M KIDDING!
Well... sort of......
I'd much rather see a woman out in the field hunting than sitting on the phone all day, or trying to drive while talking on a cell phone, apply makeup and eat a burger at the same time.

Having six darling daughters your question intrigues me. Some of them hunt and some don't; oldest daughter has killed more deer with a Buick than she has with a rifle. Any more I sort of relegate females to a superior intelligence plane and males to a lower one; and despite being male I state that most men are idiots; but that is only my opinion based on many years of observation. Women with weapons make my blood run cold; I remember that my brother and I were being smart mouthed to our Mother for a short time span; one day we saw her pick up a chicken and talk softly to it and cuddle it, then lay its head on a piece of wood, pull out a hatchet, and whack it's head off, it ran around with blood spurting out of the neck and dropped dead. After that we worshipped her and obeyed her without question. I have several of my daughters working in my business now; when I need a problem solved or somebody's attitude corrected I send them to do the job; they get it done and only whine if they break a nail. I also sleep with a double barrel 12 gauge under my pillow just to be on the safe side.

That's fine, as long as you are a humane hunter, sounds like you use the meat and enjoy the sport of it - good for you! Personally, not my thing, I do like moose meat but the local deer is too gamey for me, makes ok sausage though. Not a fan of bow and arrow hunting as I think it is cruel but for people who are against hunting I do not understand. Better to have lived in freedom in the bush than be a factory cow or pig I say! You go Girl, power to you!

you're taking a especially simplistic view of the issue. you may strengthen a similar argument infinitely: women choose which guy they settle for; yet adult men choose which women to make the provision to; yet women choose which adult men they make themselves available to (on the bar, the workplace, church, etc); etc. Like lovemaking, this is a dynamic interaction, no longer a basically "who's on correct" competition. everybody is hunted, and everyone is a hunter, all at the same time.

I have no problem with women hunting. I teach Hunter Safety and I have noticed a trend in my classes. The number of women and girls that are attending is going up. My wife hunts occasionally with me and my boys. She is not really in to hunting but I think she goes just to be with us. Which I am happy about. When I first met her she had never touched a gun but now has 8 of her own. She goes target shooting with us guys and seems to enjoy it. I have taught my grand daughter how to shoot and hope to take her hunting with me and my sons. I admire and respect you for your ability and your ethics.

Hey, if that's what you enjoy doing, go for it.
People don't understand that sometimes you/we need to hunt to keep the population down because if hunters didn't do this, the animals would starve because of overcrowding.
I did hunt years ago, but no longer do it. Too cold for me to sit still and be quiet.
Hunting is and should be monitored so that we don't loose precious wildlife.
