Sadly yes, the way the Palestinians are treated is definitely an apartheid system.
Jimmy Carter wrote a book called 'Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid'. When asked about his book, Carter said "The book describes the abominable oppression and persecution in the occupied Palestinian territories, with a rigid system of required passes and strict segregation between Palestine's citizens and Jewish settlers in the West Bank. An enormous imprisonment wall is now under construction, snaking through what is left of Palestine, to encompass more and more land for Israeli settlers. In many ways, this is more oppressive than what black people lived under in South Africa during apartheid."
Interestingly, South Africans certainly see the similarity and 30,000 to 50,000 South Africans took to the streets of Durban to speak out in support of the Palestinian people. For a discussion as to how the situations are similar, read
http://www.globalexchange.org/countries/mideast/palestine/apartheid.html
Paperback - That is insulting to Mark and there is no need for personal insults here.

Comparrisons are over simplistic. Even staring at the Lebanon situation, you find the ground trempling.
It's like we always are trying to stand on quicksand.
The Bush administration invited Syria to last week's Israeli-Palestinian peace conference in Annapolis, Md., and expressing openness to an Israeli-Syrian peace deal over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
A US engagement strategy with Syria might look like this: Syria and Israel work out a peace deal that returns the Golan Heights to Damascus; that deal relieves Syria from having to support its anti-Israel military proxies Hizbullah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza – and loosens its relationship of convenience with Iran; that in turn improves regional stability.
The US labels Syria as a supporter of terrorism, and that makes it difficult for the administration to switch gears like this. But isolating Damascus has not worked, and even Israel has made overtures to Syria. There is an opportunity now to move forward!

You have absolutely NO right to compare the situation with Israel and the Arabs to the Holocaust!!!
hatehate: Before you spew any more ignorant ideas, learn how to spell. And while you're at it, pick up a f*****g history book. The Israel/Arab situation does not even come close to the atrocities committed during the Holocaust. Was your family living in South Africa during Apartheid? Probably not. Mine was...so stop speaking about things you know NOTHING about.
Worldluv: Yes, sadly South Africa is known to be a very anti-Israel country. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. "more oppressive than what black people lived under in South Africa during apartheid" - are you freaking kidding me? You actually believe that s***?

Israel is like Hitler? Really? How so?
Has Israel publicly declared the intention of gassing, shooting, and murdering every single Arab on the planet?
Answer: NO
Has Israel built giant concentration camps, complete with crematoria, specifically for gassing Arabs?
Answer: NO
Does Israel make its' Arab citizens wear special clothes to identify them as Arabs?
Answer: NO
Does Israel perform experiments on Arab children, such as pouring acid into their eyes to see if the colour changes?
Answer: NO
Does Israel get hold of Arab pregnant women and then cut them open sans anaesthetic?
Answer: NO
If Israel is, as you state, committing genocide, then how is it possible that the number of Palestinians is steadily INCREASING?
If Israel is so terrible, then why did the Sudanese refugees - Muslims - flee through Egypt and keep going until they reached Israel where they then BEGGED to be allowed in?
You don't feel that the Egyptians who shot at said refugees were like Nazis, no?
And the Lebanese and Egyptians who keep the Palestinians in terrible camps, they're not like Nazis either, no?
Hmmmmm....... you need to pick up a history book and stop embarassing yourself like this.
MARK - may I ask how old you are? I enquire because in my humble experience, most intelligent adults - and I know you are intelligent - do accept that life is not black and white, and that usually there are two sides (at least!) to every situation.
You will see that I wrote quite a bit on this site about how terribly Palestinians have suffered, and how badly they need their own state. All I ask is that people consider that their suffering is largely because of the way Arab leaders have behaved.
But you - even in the face of objective, verifiable facts regarding Israel, you will still not even for ONE SECOND admit that there is suffering on the part of Israelis also, and that not everything is their fault. You will not even acknowledge that Jews have been living in that area for 3000 years continuously. Or that Jews WERE treated badly and kicked out of some Arab nations.
So I have to assume you are very young. Because any adult, by now, would have been fair enough to acknowledge there is truth on both sides.

No, it isn't. The Israeli-Palestinian/Arab-Israeli conflict in no way compares to the holocaust. Mass genocide is not happening - quite the opposite in fact. The Arab population has grown explosively in the last century, conflicting greatly with the plight of the Jews under the Nazis. I'm not going to waste any more time justifying this, as I think it's quite obvious that you exaggerate greatly with regards this comparison.
Israel is not persecuting the Arabs. For starters, Israeli Arabs have the exact same rights as Israeli Jews, clearly not acts of persecution. Also, while Israeli Arabs are free to leave Israel, they seldom do so; the simple fact is that life for Arabs in Israel is better than any Arab country.
The current conflict is not a result of persecution. For starters, Palestinian terror predates the occupation and supposed persecution. Arafat's terrorism began in 1964, a full 3 years before persecution could even have startered. Secondly, terrorist groups do not call for an end to the persecution, they call for the destruction of Israel, which is no different from Arab calls since the birth of modern Zionism. As simple proof, one need only look to Gaza. Since Israel no longer controls Gaza, it would require a convoluted explanation to describe how Israel still persecutes the Gazans, yet terror and destruction continue to pour out of that area. It seems persecution is not the answer.

Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said failure to negotiate a two-state solution with the Palestinians would spell the end of the State of Israel.
He warned of a "South African-style struggle" which Israel would lose if a Palestinian state was not established.

Like Israel has it so f-ing bad. Stole land from the Palestine's. If anything the Palestine's are living in apartheid. Some don't even have access to decent drinking water. Israel should be ashed. If it wasn't for the U.S. they would be nothing. Why do we keep giving them military supplies? This is sicking. Give the Palestine's a state its over due. The christian extreme press politicians for the Jews because they think Jesus will return when all Jews are returned to Israel. This is insane. Stop giving them money
