To some Christians Islam makes more sense and they convert as Muslims.

Christians foolishly think that Islam is a big threat to their society without ever studying the changes in their Ex-Christian who is now Muslim to find out his religious practices and what he believes does make any sense or not.

I'm trying to think of a way to answer this that won't offend you or hurt you, and I'm not sure if there is one that will let me do that without compromising my own beliefs. As I have said, I am a Christian. I attend church, am baptized, and try to practice my faith, taking as my guide chiefly the Sermon on the Mount. (You will find the best rendering of that in Matthew 5 and 6.)

You and other Muslims are not my enemy, but Jesus taught us to love our enemies. He taught us to look within ourselves for our own sins before we condemned others for theirs.

In modern society a Teddy Bear is an object of affection and--by children--even love. (I'm a guy and I had one into my teens.) If we wanted to call a Teddy Bear Jesus it would be misguided but not sacriligious, unless we intended it to be sacriligious.

If I am not mistaken, Mohammed is a rather common name for males in Arabic and other Muslim societies. It would seem to me we could name a Teddy Bear Mohammed without even naming him after the prophet. Am I wrong? Again, I don't think this would be sacriligious unless we intended it to be.

The terrorist commander of the 9-11 strikes was named Mohammed Atta, and it would seem to me that his carrying the name would be far more offensive than giving that name to a Teddy Bear.

I am not going to attack or insult Islam. While I do not believe it is the most correct religion, I respect those who believe in it and follow it, particularly those who do so in a spirit of love, peace and generosity.

In my society we would probably not name our dogs or cats or Teddy Bears Jesus, and we would probably not apply that name to most people either. Some Christian societies would use the name, however, and I named my youngest son "Joshua," which is more or less the same name spelled differently.

I think we should all be prepared to forgive those whose offense against us or an institution we venerate is not intentional.

Some Muslims are too militant. So are some Christians. The majority of both are not. We need to love and respect each other and forgive the unintended insults.

Long answer, but I hope it helps.

Unfortunately both Christianity and Islam have their religious extremists, and these extremists are currently very influential.

Islam as taught by the Prophet was not an intolerant or violent religion - it is the extremist influence that has made it so.

Likewise with Christianity - Christ preached love. He would not approve of killing in the name of religion such as during the Crusades or the various inquisitions. The extremists have lost sight of this.

These intolerances have come about because people have used organized religion as a tool for controlling people. This has been going on for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. They use fear and repression to gain power over people.

I have as little to do with organized religion as possible. It is not that I am an Atheist - I have my own philosophy and try to develop my own personal relationship with God - what need do I have for other people to tell me what that should be?

What's in a name anyway? These people are either oversensitive or control-freaks or both, making mountains out of molehills. If there was no intent to insult this should be a non-issue that could be resolved by discussion rather than throwing a harmless teacher in jail.

I like Teddy bears :) now I don't think this teacher knew it would be such a bad thing to do .. some one should have told her ... something so silly should not upset the truly devout. If you really believe in your religion you should be secure enough to just shake it off she didn't know .. as a rule people are stupid and do crazy junk. Before the be headings started *again just crazy people doing something bad in the name of something good* we Westerners kinda had this idea of Muslims being very patient and wise and tolerant loving and devout and kind...
or at least I did .. my dads best friend was Muslim .. Now its just a scary religion ... some Christians are very intolerant and want to concur everything and destroy what they don't know or understand .don't let those kind of people bother you or shake your faith.. but given the worlds state of being with all the be headings and such.. you can't expect being treated friendly for being Islamic.

Most people hate Islam because there are thousands of Muslims who murder innocent men, women and children without cause. It's not limited to Christians.

Many people hate Islam also because every time anyone says anything about Mohammed, Muslims all around the world respond by calling for the deaths of the perpetrators, as if they were demons and not human beings.

Islam is viewed as a religion of death and violence as a result, not a religion of peace, and only peaceful Muslims can change that image by taking it back. The fact that peaceful Muslims won't do it proves that we're right about them.

As for the teddy bear, it's unimportant. The woman was trying to honor Mohammed, and she was punished for it. Muslims are so rigid that they punish and call for the death of an innocent woman.

Its nothing to do with which religion is good and which is bad. Even, Christians fight among Christians, Muslims fight among Muslims, and so do the other religions.

Some Christians seems like insulting Islam, i believe because they have a phobia since the 911 tragedy. Even from school in US, children been thought about "Muslim = terrorism = evil".

As Muslims, what we can do is try to explain to all your Christian or other religion about Islam & its way of peaceful life. Listen to them, show them and teach them

As Christians (or other religions), what happen in 911 tragedy is not reflects to all Muslim. Even Muslims all over the world hate on this mass tragedy. If to make a fair comparison, please take a look on what J.W.B had done to Iraq & Palestine. But Muslims never blame all the Christians as the whole.

Somehow, politics in religion is dividing people while all prophets and masters taught us the values of tolerance, forgiveness and brotherhood.

It is a sad scene. How can naming something harm other, though we should avoid hurting someone's sentiments. A sincere apology still works better.

On the other hand, I see a positive point too that people of other religions are following your religion's good names.

Fact of the matter remains that this has been happening since civilization took roots.

It is Religio-Politics- ordinary men has no time to waste on such trifles.

Rise above- Be Happy.

It's not just christians. It's other muslims who are perplexed by Sudan's psychopathic reaction.

when you consider that Mohammed is the most common name in the world, I wonder what the problem is with naming a teddy bear the Arabic equivalent of "John."

the reaction was insane, calling for DEATH over the name of a #$%^ing teddy bear? what the hell?

EDIT: apparently you neither read nor watch the news, but piece things together from overheard conversations.

THERE WERE RIOTS IN SUDAN. the rioters were chanting along the lines of "kill her, kill her."

She should not have been sentenced, arrested, or even questioned over this, and there are idiots chanting for her death.

Tell me how this makes sense.

I'm a Christian and I wouldn't do this. In America we would never name a person or anything else "Jesus" but this is a common practice among, say, Mexican Roman Catholics. For them it is honoring Jesus, for us it would be disrespectful - but we allow for and respect their viewpoint on it inside of Christianity. I believe that kind of understanding should be extended to all reasonable people.

Having said that....

Islam is not the same through and through. There are many nations in the world where you would be whipped or beaten for posting this, using an avatar, using a profane avatar with a visible face. There are Muslims killing the critics of Islam or those who simply have another perspective. Whatever efforts are going on among Islam to curtail or change this behavior I do not see (perhaps you also fear these people). As long as that goes on I think you will find many people skeptical like me, or just plain hostile to the cultural or theological taboos of Islam.

So, I extend understanding and respect to your wishes because you as an individual seem very reasonable. On the whole, Islam is effectively becoming unreasonable from a western perspective.

I'm an atheist and I slam all religions. Islam is currently the worst because it is the most consistent with its irrational standards. Christianity has been dissected over the past millennium and has been somewhat integrated with the rational Western philosophy brought back during the Renaissance.

Christianity hardly exists but it's making a slight comeback on college campuses but this comeback won't last. As soon as these nihilist students get out into the real world they see how unimportant religion is for guidance in life.

Do you know what an insult is? You cannot take insult for the teddy bear if no insult was intended, and none was, and you certainly can't justify a punishment beyond an apology. When Muslims call for someone to be killed over it, it gives everyone fair cause to call Islam a disaster religion.
