So my husband & I were getting our ice shack ready for the lake last night...we got to talking about how many people we've met (from warmer places) who think that the whole concept is SO bazzar. For anyone who's never experienced this, what do you think of it? Would you ever like to try it?

Don't get me wrong here...I love summer fishing too, I'm just interested in what thoughts "warm weather" people have on us crazy northerners sitting (& even driving)on a big frozen lake, drilling holes & drinking COLD beer while we do it. =) P.S. my shack has a heater, bunks, & a generator so we can even snuggle up & watch TV.

I spent most of my life in FLA. I recently moved to MN.

I find ice-fishing totally interesting & fun. Esp if you have a Aqua-vu camera and can watch the fish hit your lure/bait. Wow!

Very neat!

(I must admit-When I was in FLA I didn't "get it". And there are days in the winter I would like to "cast" instead of "drop". But it's still fun.)

Ive been fishing my entire life, and Ive never tried ice fishing.
And to be honest, I will probably never try it either.
Not because sitting over a hole fishing isn't fun, I hate cold weather. I still don't understand how many people live in cold weather place like that let alone fish on a frozen lake like that!
To each his own though, so I'll stick to my South Texas weather for a while.

I live in MN and I think it is bazaar. Sitting out over a whole in the ice doesn't seem like fun to me. I realize that drinking is a major part of it and the ice houses are warm but there is something about being out in the middle of a frozen lake that I just don't get.....

I can sit in my living room and drink just as easy as I can sit over a hole in the ice.... Not for me but to each their own.

I will however go out on the ice when I play in the Pond hockey championships in Eagle River WI in February. For some reason I feel more comfortable on the ice that way than in an ice house??

I live in northern California and have never tried ice fishing, but would love to get the chance. I've been to Alaska, Africa and many other places along the way, someday it will be Minnesota in the winter, I don't think the concept is bazzar at all.

Well being that i'm from south florida we don't get to do much ice fishing. I would love to give it a shot. Don't know if i could handle it though. I was in philly for a few days and 35 was cold enough for me let alone the single digits yall fish in. It does spark questions for me but i suppose that would be for another post.

I never have, but would be willing to try it. It sounds like fun, and a bit scary too.
I'm a little concerned about the driving out on the ice, and the heaters in the shanty's, don't heaters melt the ice?

Being from the south, I had never seen ice fishing, except on TV shows....Last January, I drove to Maine to hunt Eider. On Highway 3, was Lake St.George. It was filled with ice fishermen. I stopped at a boat launch ramp, and watched them from a distance. One fellow was going back to his "shack" with a four wheeler, and we talked, and he invited me to go with him. I did, and it was really an enjoyable experience. While I was there, he only caught one trout, but it was a keeper, and I thanked him, and decided to walk back to my truck about 300 yards away. I wasn't wearing "ice grips", and the third time I busted my "hiney", he rode me back to the ramp on his four wheeler. We had a good laugh, and I told him I had driven 1180 miles just to bust my ***. They were all a friendly lot, and were very willing to help and inform....I think I might have to go try it.....

I've never been and I don't really like the idea of droping my line straight down into a hole that you can't see into and just wait in the freezing cold untill you get a bite.
