An employee of mine (in Idaho) who is a mormon bishop told me that a good mormon gets his own planet when he dies where he is a god. What was surprising was that as a god he was entitled to at least 30 virgins. This person is a very intelligent health care professional.

If in fact your Mormon friend did say that (which I seriously doubt, frankly), he is very misinformed.

Like many other Christian denominations (specifically the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic branches of Christianity), Mormons do believe in "theosis," the idea that man can progress to become more like God. Historically, this concept was had among the earliest Christians.

Mormons believe in the Bible, which teaches: "To him that overcometh will I [Christ] grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne." So we believe that we can become like God through the power of Christ, but not that we will ever be greater than God. We will always worship God the Father and Christ the Son. To use traditional Christian terminology (and not terminology that only Mormons understand), it would probably be more accurate to say that Mormons believe they can become powerful angels in the next life (although that phrasing doesn't exactly capture Mormon belief either, and is very inaccurate if one uses the Mormon definition of angel).

The idea that Mormons will get their own planet was invented by Ed Decker, as far as I can tell. He is a virulent anti-Mormon.

No Mormon would believe in the 30 virgins idea. That's a Muslim concept.

No. He will have his own wife in the next life IF they both remain worthy. He will NOT get 30 virgins, nor does it state in our doctrine that he would receive a planet. Although there have been opinions stated on that.

It makes me wonder if you've been asking really ignorant or rude questions and he is tired of trying to explain to you so he is being sarcastic.

God is composed entirely of the energy we call Love. Desiring to fully experience every aspect of His/Her Divinity, God modified the vibrational rates of His/Her energy to form matter, and divided Her/His consciousness into an infinite number of individuations we call souls. All souls were created at the same time, none have or will die, and all are on a path of spiritual evolution back to the Creator. We were given the gifts of free will and a veil of forgetting that we might perceive ourselves as individuals. In reality we are all equal parts of the Creator and all of creation is connected to the underlying field of energy from which we are manifest - God. This is the universal truth. Everything else is craziness from the mind of man.

No we don't get a planet with 30 virgins...that is made up.
The whole planet thing came from Orson Pratt's The Seer which the church has said it is false doctrine at the time of the publishing of the book.
We are joint heirs with Christ and will dwell in the celestial kingdom with our families and with God.

No, your very intelligent health care professional employee is mistaken, I hope he's not being Mormon to get virgins :)
He only gets a planet with the wives he has married in this life to ensure that he doesnt have to spend eternity with one wife because as we all know, women at times get grumpy. Of course, in a perfect world, there would be a way to make women not grumpy...maybe when he's a "god" he can figure that one out. Personally, I think it's pervy to even consider having more than one woman, virgin or not. But I suppose that's another question entirely.

I have heard this before. It is not part of my belief system. I also want to know how come everyone keeps picking on virgins? Some tribe of virgins for the Mormon folks, some for Islamic followers. Crumbs... what did the virgins do that was so wrong??? Don't their wishes ever get respected?

Do they think that? I would be very willing to believe that many do. I know for a fact that they believe they will get their own planet with their wife and become God of that planet. Of course that is not the strangest thing I have heard compared to what other cults believe. Although it is pretty close. To answer your question though. The answer is no, they will not get their own planet, they will not get 30 virgins, they will not be married to thier Earthly wife (which the temple marriage promises.) The truth is if they don't except the gift of salvation from Jesus and stop trying to make themselves a God, I really don't want to know what will happen to them when they die

I really doubt a Mormon bishop would tell you that. Something is fishy about your story.
