Was there really a time when plastic was used in cosmetic surrgery procedures? Is it because of the silicone implants that were used at first for breast augmentation surgery?

The word "plastic" derives from the Greek plastikos meaning to mold or to shape; its use here is not connected with the synthetic polymer material known as plastic. Plastic surgeons typically mold and reshape the following tissues of the body: bone, cartilage, muscle, fat, and skin.

No, plastic has never been used, nor is silicone ever called plastic.

It comes from a secondary definition of the word plastic: Having the power to give form or fashion to a mass of matter; as, the plastic hand of the Creator.
