And for God so loved the people he gave his unique Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life

Thats my own translation of the Greek text.
"The people" is more accurate than "The world"
"Unique" has less misconceptions than "only begotten"
And "eternal life" is a bit of an error on the writer's part. Eternal has no beginning, no end. Our lives do have a beginning, so we are not eternal beings. Everlasting would have been a better word choice. Everlasting may have a beginning, but no end.
