Although I respect everyones religion and beliefs, I think The Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust has gone too far. Our nurses are stretched to the limits as it is.

There's a fine line between a nurse and a maid!
Just like you, I have great respect for all religions and I respect people's rights to practise it when and where they want.
But this has gone too far. They have family members to accomodate them. Noone's stopping them.
My Grandma is a devout Muslim and when she was in hospital she didn't even pray at all, because sick people are exempt from prayers. They should learn more about their religion really.

Muslims as part of their faith are required to visit and care for the sick. I think a better solution would be to have a Muslim contingent of volunteers at each hospital that would see to this need, as long as it didn't interfere with the care of others.
I think making nurses responsible for religious needs is inappropriate, and it also does something else...it puts the nurse in the position of perhaps doing something that is in conflict with their OWN religion. I think it is fair, when we throw on the hyper-sensitivity switch, to throw it on all the way. If we are to be sensitive to the patients religious needs, then we have to be sensitive to the care giver's needs as well.
What a lot of rot, over fear.

Thats ridiculous.Why not leave the beds facing Mecca will save time.Better still tell the patient to move there own or get a relative to do it.

If the patients are in bed then they aren't in a fit state to pray to Mecca anyway.

God you get up early. But anyway in answer to your question, I shall make certain that the next time I'm in the hospital the face my bed toward Arlington National cemetery. Too much is too much.

Can't they just turn their heads in the given direction? They have to "FACE" Mecca, so as long as their face can be moved toward the right direction, I see no need to move the bed.

thats bollocks!!! nurses are to busy as it is! Muslims should do it themselves or there relatives when they come in. Im pretty sure if a 'modern' muslim is so very very sick in hospital the direction of there bed wont really matter to much. well if they are way to bothered about it they should move it themselves! i understand its there religion but come on!!!
