Could I not just get one and share it for one car or buy tickets with discount under my name?

A AAA membership and its services applies to the person, not the vehicle. So you can't just buy an individual membership and share it. You need to purchase associate memberships for other driving members of your family if you want AAA coverage for them as well.

I don't believe that the membership transfers to other drivers. If there are more than 1 driver of the car, you should get a membership for all of them.

When you call AAA they will check the membership status using the license number of the person driving, no membership means they are not obligated to help you.

If you are talking about the Automobile Club, when called, they check the card and the drivers license. If the person in the car is not covered, neither is the call. I have been asked for this info when calling and had it checked when they arrived.
