I don't really think of stars as a means of giving credit to the question(er).

Starring questions is a great way to bring something to the attention of my contacts though, be it intelligent or extra stupid.

I don't really look at stars. I sometimes use them to highlight particularly interesting or stupid questions so my contacts will pick up on them.
