You would think so. It seemed that the virtues Jesus promoted were understanding, tolerance, and unconditional love. Somehow Christians seem to think being hateful and judgmental is their highest calling. Maybe it just makes them feel better about themselves?

The priests are going about it the wrong way.
On the one hand, the Bible *does* say that homosexuality is a grave sin, and as a Christian I shouldn't pretend it's really okay or support it in the name of political correctness. I don't believe that I should have close homosexual friends (the Bible also says that Christians should be closest to other believers), and I certainly don't wish for my children to be exposed to that lifestyle either, not until they are old enough to know what's what. But I will be polite and kind to the gay people I meet - I believe in treating everyone with courtesy and politeness even if I strongly disagree with their lifestyle, just as I would hope people do in return.
I also do not believe that people who are "born gay" were created that way by God. Why would He call homosexuality an abomination, and then go on and create many homosexual people? That is illogical. God would not do that. The Bible says that God doesn't tempt any man with sin. I believe homosexuality is, in many cases, a spiritual opression that can even be present from birth. When gay people get truly born again, they are delivered from that oppression and become heterosexuals. If "gayness" was caused by a gene, that wouldn't be the case, as people aren't genetically changed, or delivered from genetic flaws, when they get saved. So it is not as if these people were created to go to hell. In that, the priests are wrong. Sin sets us on the pathway to Hell, and the only thing that will get us off that pathway is believing in Jesus. People go to hell when they don't ever repent of their sins and turn to Jesus for deliverance. Being gay isn't why homosexuals go to hell - it's because they didn't put their trust in Jesus Christ. Make sense? I hope I haven't lost ya! lol
Anyways, I think the best thing to do isn't to stand there and shake your finger in the face of the homosexual while telling them they are hellbound. I think the thing to do is to help them understand that God did not make them gay, and that He can deliver them from that lifestyle. Then tell them about Jesus Christ, how He loves them so much that He gave up His life to pay for their sins since nobody can do that on their own. The Bible tells believers to speak the truth in love, and that is what those priests should be doing rather than having a fit.
But does it really matter who is worse than whom? Both of them are in error of some kind. What matters more is that both of them start doing the right thing.

In my humble opinion, all religions are a bunch of crap, especially the Monotheistic ones. Their main goal is not, as they say, to save your soul. They are there to CONTROL your mind and give the leaders power.
The vast majority of religions have lost touch of the spiritual portions and are locked in dogma now. With the increase in Fundamentalism (all forms) ritual and strict adherence to whatever is in whichever book they happen to be reading becomes incompatible with free thought. "The Book" is truly "Gods word" and anyone who doesn't think as they do is wrong and evil.
Personally I find overt Male homosexuality (flaming queens) repulsive, but I do not think it is inherently evil or damnable. I know a number of Gay and Lesbian people who are good, respectable, honest people who just have different sexual preferences than i do.
The sad thing is that these intolerant religions are growing both abroad and in the US. Religious intolerance has been the cause of more wars, death and destruction than can be imagined over human history. I think the world would be much better off with no religions.

Let me answer this answer from the Islamic point view. In the Islamic "Fikh", religion doesnt condemn those feeling toward the same sex, however consider the homosexual relation as crimes. Islamic "Fikh" devided in this issue men itto people who doesnt have those feelings, and people who may have this feeling and people who always have this feeling. They are not equal in percentage. In the same time, Islam put some rules in order to avoid homosexuality because of the bad effects on human it self and society. Homosexuality causes severe depression and as you see many people are suiciding these days because of these acts. Also homosexual may rape children. Also it causes serious diseases. One homo needs another, the two creates three and four and etc, which lead to unbalanced society where many women dont find a man to marry.
Hopely you understand it.

Homosexuals have the same chance of getting into heaven as anyone else. They either believe that Jesus Christ died for their sins and paid their price and accept Him, or they don't and reject Him. God is the author and finisher of our faith and He will deal with our sins as we are able to bear it. We all have at least one thing (sin) that we struggle with and fail at daily, but no one says that we are all going to hell. I can't really figure out why we (Christians as a group) have singled out one particular sin as unforgivable when the Bible CLEARLY states that the ONLY unforgivable sin is blasphening the Holy Spirit. And please don't equate being evil with going to hell, there are many good and decent people (by earthly standards) that are headed to hell as well.

you have gotten some good solutions yet i'm going to take a diverse path - historic perspective. to understand this, you like 2 steps of expertise. the present view on homosexuality is love that's now by means of way the Bible became into translated. In different words, this present day opposition is classic. areas of the Bible say neither to characteristic to nor get rid of from the Bible. those admonitions against homosexuality are there, so the church has no decision yet to maintain this opposition. To do in any different case could open them to added accusations of hypocrisy. If the previous faith says to circumvent homosexuality, it just about won't be able to go away except the Church makes those areas of the Bible into Apocryphal books. That hasn't got here approximately actually in centuries. The previous view is in the Bible by means of outcomes of homosexuality on inheritance rights. whilst a guy married a woman yet he became into gay, the percentages have been that he probable does no longer have intercourse together with her. intercourse does not "seize" each time you do it. you should do the deed many situations. whilst a gay guy became into in a sham marriage, the percentages of the lady "catching" have been badly decreased. If she had little ones besides (with the aid of adultery), it blurred blood traces lots. If she remained childless, it broke family members bloodlines. If the guy became into promiscuous and gay, there became into an bigger probability of spreading ailment (by means of fact Louis Pasteur's Germ theory of ailment became into nevertheless 1800 years away and that they did no longer recognize a thank you to guard themselves.) Given the tribal nature of the uneducated, superstitious nomadic shepherds, something that had the effect of endangering the gene pool became into to be refrained from. something that made inheritance of assets a problematical corporation became into to be refrained from. Homosexuality became into for this reason banned by means of fact in a worldwide with constrained inhabitants, something anti-replica became into anti-survival.

I've never understood why the right wing fundamentalists think that homosexuality is the worst of all sins. Personally I would place hatred, bigotry and intolerance near the top of my list. I've known many homosexuals who are loving honorable people -- and some who are not. Just like any other group you have to take each person individually. But we need to remember that God loves all his children.

My point exactly. I applaud you. First of all its noones choice but their own to be homosexual. I just don't understand why so many people have a problem with it. It isn't like they have to go to bed with them anyways. I say live and let live. There is a place in heaven for all gods people and creatures gay or not!!

The law of GOD (YHVH) is clear...
Leviticus 20:13
"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."
