YUHATEME: I think that is a skewed view of ancient Israel. If they would have been keeping the Torah instructions would they have been destroyed as a nation?

BMCR; Judasim was not the religion of the united Kingdom of Israel nor the religion of either kingdom after the split. Judaism began to develop after the Babylonian Captivity and the introduction of the Talmud.

Depends on what you mean by ancient Israel.

During the United empire's dominance under David and Soloman it was all twelve tribes under a single monarch.

After Soloman it was the Northern ten tribes Excluding Judah and Benjamin who constituted a separate kingdom called Judah from wence we get the term "Jews".

Modern Israel is basically the tribe of Judah as in you must prove "Jewish" heritage not Israelite heritage to make allyah to the land (go live there). However this new Jewish state which could be better termed Judah encompasses much of the territory that was held by the ancient northern kingdom of Israel.

I know this is not the geo political answer or religious answer but its the fact.

The modern State of Israel is a secular Western style democracy.

The ancient Kingdom of Israel was a religious based (Judaism based) monarchy.

Also, the there are variances in the territory it covered.

Also, for the record, there was a unified kingdom under David and Solomon. After Solomon, the kingdom split into two, Judea (Yehuda) and Israel (Yisrael).

The kingdom of Israel had a King from the line of David on the throne that was ordained by God. This was the kingdom through which Jesus was to come into the world. They were the people of God. Modern Israel sad to say, lives on the same land, but ignores Jesus, the one whom their prophets foretold. Today Christians not a nation, are the people of God, 1 Peter 2:9.

The West Bank and Gaza Strip were part of the old kingdom so modern day Israel is smaller and of course Israel no longer has kings.

One kept the 613 Laws of Yahweh and King Solomon had peace on every boarder (2Ch 9:23).

The other follows the Babylonian Talmud that no one can follow, which causes confusion and separation which is what you see going on today in Israel.

Peace.

The most obvious is that the ancient kingdom was very religious, whereas today Israel is a very secular society. They still face the same enemies, survival is their primary objective, and they are hated by many nations.
