Historically speaking? Nero, Rome, Set. Take your pick.

Biblically, it's most likely Nero.

The ignorant of today believe he is some kind of real beast that lives in your head, when really he was originally written to be a metaphor for Rome/Nero because of their actions against Christians.

Satan means adversary like in electricity you have anode and cathode, positive and negative. In a duality like our universe you cannot have one without the other. In Law a solicitor will play 'Devils advocate' and ask contrary questions in order to find the truth, which of course may be uncomfortable but is recquired for the greater good. To call or think of someone as 'Satan' just shows your ignorance.

Satan cannot be proven to exist, as a being.
Satan can, however, be proven to exist as a concept.
Satan, depicted as a mean and ugly old man, probably about 90-years-old, is the spirit of enmity and hate toward men who strive toward God. Satan the enmitous. In the Bible he is called the adversary.
Satan does not reside in hell, punishing the wicked....that is a fallacy. The Bible tells us that Satan's place is in the world of men...he flits about through the air, going from this place to that.
In the Book of Revelations, it tells us that Satan is thrown into the lake of fire by Apollyon the Destroyer, angel of the abyss.

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

God/Satan, Good/ Evil....I don't think it's that simple, do you? If I did, I would have to say something that most people would do anything for, including harming their fellow man or woman, like money or religion. Just my two cents.
