At 53 I find that when I was 10-18 I could find out more of what was really going on by talking to adult extended relatives. Now kids think that with TV, internet, and such that they don't need to directly talk to an adult to find out what is really going on.

I rememember i being a little uncomfortable talking to adults , which is dumb. I guess because I knew my parents were watching and would ask later what the conversatin was about, just being curious.
It is dumb though since theses realtives can provide a wealth of info about family members and their experiences with teenagehood etc.
Also, I thought that the world was SO different that these relatives could not possibly understand my world. I regret not getting to know them better.

I think that depends on if the parents encouraged that kind of communication all along. My teenage stepsons don't talk to anyone unless it's getting close to birthday, Christmas or vacation time. Other than that they are to busy to be bothered... But my 13 year old daughter talks to my parents and my husband's mom pretty regularly (none of our siblings are close...)

I used to spend time listening to all the stories my uncles and aunts used to tell, listen to their music and stuff. Kids nowadays are such brats and they think that just because we're "adults" we can't relate to their generations' quirks. They're missing out on a great thing.

my family,we all talk to each other.my aunts and uncles are sporting and can be funny sometimes.so,we all jokes around when we meet.my grandparents always talk about something,so me,my siblings and cousins just hear and ask them anything.we all just talk.lol.myb you can do any family activities that involve everybody so that the teenagers can start talking and get to know their grandparents more.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Give them 5 years, they become completely different people in their 20's.
