Religion is just a set of beliefs about the origin of life and or morality. There are many of them and some have very different elements, so they shouldn't all be lumped together.

Religious denomination is which specific branch of a religion a person practices. Christian is a religion, Methodist, Baptist and Catholic are denominations.

Religion is a series of beliefs, many unprovable. Religious denomination is a series of religious beliefs shared by members of a group. I believe in God(religion) I believe in Jesus (any Christian denomination).
