Okay, every time a woman asks a question about labor on here, everyone tells her it's the worst pain ever. Am I wierd that my labors didn't really hurt any worse than a bad period? I;ve had three vaginal births, the first two with no meds whatsoever. I mean, yeah it hurt, but it was by far not the worst pain ever. My children were also born really fast. Maybe if I'd been in labor for awhile then I would feel different. It might also be because when I was 13 I endured skin grafts over both my feet. Nothing hurts worse than that. Not even labor. But I'm just curious, is there anybody else out there that had kids totally natural and didn't find it very bad? Or am I the only one?

I really don't mean to offend any of the women that spent like 3 days in labor. I'm sorry if I do.

Labor for me wasnt bad at all, its just like you say- like a bad period.

I think delivery, just from crowning until the head is out, its the worst pain ever- but it only lasted like 90 seconds.

I labored 43 1/2 hours, 6 of it pushing. Honestly it was NOT as bad as I imagined it to be. I was natural until my 1.5 hour transition, I finally gave in and got a spinal.

I'd certainly do it again. I probably have had worse pain, I had a septic hip from the old HIB vaccines and they probed it while I was awake- I just dont remember because the pain was soooo intense.

I agree, labor isnt that bad at all.

Why the hell did I get a thumbs down? WTF?

I feel the same way!! I had my first two natural and the pain wasn't that bad at all, and my second was 10 pounds!! I feel bad sometimes giving someone advice on here about labor because I didn't really have a hard time with it. I had gall bladder attacks during my third pregnancy that I found were more painful than delivering a ten pound baby! I had to have an emergency c-section with my third baby and the recovery from that wasn't too fun, but still not as bad as the gall bladder pain! I figure my body was made to have children at this stage in my life and it's a totally natural thing. I also grew up with my Mom volunteering at the local crisis pregnancy center so I had the joy of watching the continuous loop video of the miracle of birth!! I knew from a young age what childbirth entailed.
I'm glad to know that I am not alone!

I had my daughter 100% NATURAL!!! NO MEDS AT ALL!!!
My water broke at 12:50am, and she also had a bowel movement at the same time. I got to the hospital by 1:50 and had her by 4:59am. It took the nurses 2 1/2 hours just to get my IV in because I was positive for Strep B. once that was in, it was 3 very quick pushes and she was out! And I would do it all over again!!! I think of pushing her out as a bad "bowel movement". It didn't hurt so bad that I had to scream, or hit someone. Shute...when she came out, I said "is that all"!? lol And I'm glad I didn't get the meds, because I wanted to be able to feel what giving birth was all about. And by god I did! And I plan on having my next child the same way.
from the time my water broke till she was born, my contractions were 1 1/2 minutes apart. And for the record, I am only 22.And I had 5th degree tear. Which meant I layed there for almost an hour while they stitched me up *that hurt the worse, because they couldn't even numb me!!!* after all that, I was up cleaning my room, showering, and playing with my little girl!!!

No you're not weird =) My first labor was 29 hours, all the rest were between 22 minutes and 8 hours. I went natural (no pain meds) with all but only one was without pitocin. Sure it hurt while it was happening, but as soon as I saw my baby it was "pain? what pain?". I look forward to labor, through each one I've learned new and different ways to cope with the pain (doing hypnobirthing this time). I often wonder how relaxing it would be to just have the epidural, but then I think of the downsides, like being hooked up to the bed, longer labor, limited to no mobility, the health risks, the big needle lol, etc. And it's just not worth it to me.

So no you're not alone =)

Your not the only one. I think it has a lot to do with individual pain tolerance, and mental preparation. If you go in to labor fearing the worst, then your stress will make things more painful. I also think the length of labor makes a difference. I was in labor for 28 hours with my first which ended in a c-section, and by hour 26 I was flat out exhausted. My best friend on the other hand, didn't know she was in labor until her water broke. She got to the hospital one hour later and the baby was crowning. 3 pushes and she was done. She thought she was constipated... Personally I'm not offended by women who say labor isn't hard or painful, hey, more power to ya... wish I could say the same...

I just answered a question today about that and I had two natural births, the whole labour wasn't that intense and contractions I found were no worse than period pain too, there was only one part that was excrutiating which lasted for about 5 seconds, it was a very memorable 5 seconds and luckily the joy afterwards makes it seem instantly worthwhile.
I pulled the boiling kettle on myself when I was 5 and burnt my feet, the pain lasted a lot longer, not sure how I'd rate one against the other.

You just have a different tolerance for pain. When a person experiences something REALLY painful it can change their perception of what is painful. Since you (I'm sorry to hear) needed skin grafts that changed your tolerance. But yes to some women the pain of giving birth is really painful. I had a horrific labour and delivery. And it hurt like a mother@!#$%!. But again thats me.

Some have a higher tolerance to pain than others,...me personally...I would have shot myself in labor if I could have. That explains my one and only pregnancy. Lucky you!
