I have central air. I turned my heater on for the first time yesterday and it seemed to work just fine. I felt the air coming from the vents and it is warm. The temperature reached the set temp on the thermostat. The problem is that my air conditioning unit also comes on. I don't think this is normal. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? Thanks.

It may be a heat pump. An easy way to tell is to look at the thermostat. If it has an emergency setting, it is a heat pump. For more info, check out the heat pump page at my source.

Sounds like you have a "heat pump" to me. The unit outside runs when the furnace is running. Helps to use some of the outside heat to warm the house. I have one. I don't like it and would never get a house that one again. The air coming from the vents never gets really warm. The unit runs forever to warm the house.

With a warmth pump the compressor runs. there's a reversing valve so it produces warmth. in the summertime - of path - an identical compressor cools. maximum compressors are warranted for 10 years areas and often - labor kinfolk or friends engaged on relative or friends kit? continually get estimates from somebody you don't recognize - first. I remember a neighbor had a pal that became right into a automobile salesman. The neighbor asked if he ever offered a automobile for sticky label fee? the salesperson pronounced: "particular - - - to my mom". Makes you ask your self?

Some systems have 2 thermostats and they work against each other when set at the same set point. turn the AC therm to 90 so it will not come on.
If you have just one thermostat, then you have a wiring problem or the unit had a poor engineer who didn't get it before he came to work that day.
