Are you really asking why people only care about the day Christmas?
Or are you trying to ask why people only seem to care about their fellow man, at Christmas?
It has always floored me that many people only donate money or time, in December. Soup kitchens are open year round and charities need our help in January, as much as December.
But if that is not your question, the answer is, I don't know. I don't care much about Christmas and I know a lot of people that don't care at all.

well people care about other things than Christmas..
ALot of people just like it beacause it celebrates Christ's birthday, a very good reason for celebration. It is also a fun time to get together with people you love and care about.

well, it's a reason to celebrate, be on holidays, be together with family and friends, eat (sometimes too much), there are decorations, songs, special movies... not to mention gifts
