I know Albany is almost 300 miles from Buffalo, but I wonder who they consider as their "local" hockey team? Is it Buffalo, or are there more Rangers/Islanders fans?

You do see Buffalo gear in stores, and it does have its Buffalo fans, but these are by no means predominant. Rangers/Islanders, plus the local minor-league River Rats, are much more common hockey gear items.

Note to the 1st responder: Albany is only considered downstate by northern, central and western NY; to the bulk of state population Albany is definitely upstate.

more of rangers/islanders fans since albany is considered more downstate(nyc teams) and buffalo is upstate(bills,sabres)..when i lived in buffalo i dont recall seeing too much islander/ranger merchandise so i would assume albany wouldnt carry sabres too much either.....but on the same note albany is close enough too either so maybe they are in that "middle" space where they might carry both....
