Sorry, but at age 18 no reputable gyn would ever perform such an invasive procedure.
The removal of the uterus wouldn't solve pms and mood swings. That would take the removal of the ovaries, which is not ideal when they are completely healthy.
If you are having very severe cramping during periods, see your gyn to find out the cause. Perhaps you have fibroids, polyps, or even endometriosis, all of which can be treated via surgery that isn't as invasive as a hysterectomy. If endometriosis is serious enough, of course, the final option would be a hysterectomy.

You are too young for this type of surgery, I assure you.

Grow up, stop whining about a period. If it's really that bad, see your gyn for options. After the gyn does an evaluation of why you are having severe pains, then she/he will treat you accordingly. Hysterectomies are for women who are in serious need of one, not for immature girls who cannot handle having a period.

Most doctors will not do a hysterectomy on a woman unless she has a medical problem like cancer or endometriosis (if very severe, meaning that the tissue is doing damage to the organs such as the uterus). But there may be circumstances where that doesn't matter either. (See further below.)

The best way to deal with not having periods is to go on the pill such as to take only the first few weeks of hormone pills of one pack and then skip the placebo pills of that pack and go in to the next or do something like Depo-Provera.

For the PMS issue such as the mood swings ask your doctor about taking B6 (I take this in the form of B Complex but you can find B6 in bottles by itself if they are allowed to be sold over the counter in Australia).

As for the issue of being skinnier after a hysterectomy that's not necessarily true. Most women I've met that have had hysterectomies actually had more problems with weight gain.

Also, the younger one is when they have a hysterectomy the more problems it causes because if ovaries (giving an example) are removed at the same time the menopause that occurs (it is called surgical menopause) is a shock to the body because it doesn't have the time to adjust to the changes going on inside of it.

I met someone who is now about 30 years old and had a hysterectomy a year older than you are now. She had it done for a medical problem that fell in to the categories I listed above and she ended up having more physical problems afterward from having that hysterectomy.

I know of someone else who had a hysterectomy younger than age 30 and she also had problems physically and is now 31 years old and regrets ever having the surgery done.

Also, here in some parts of the U.S. (don't know if they do something similar in Australia) a doctor must get permission from the State Medical Board to do a hysterectomy on a woman that is younger than 30 years even if the doctor and patient feels that the medical history warrants a hysterectomy (met someone that ran in to this about 5 years ago).

I would recommend that you see your gynecologist to have them try to help you figure out what is causing the pain with your periods because there are ways to help treat the problem so that the pain doesn't make it hard for you to function besides hysterectomy.

You won't be able to have a hysterectomy at your age a doctor would have a hard time making this procedure appropriate. Not even an ablation, due to the probability that you MIGHT change your mind. There is the Depo or Lupron shot that can stop periods, or, now there are birth control pills out there that give you only 4 periods a year. There is also an IUD that will stop periods. Talk to your GYN to discover your options.

sorry but what a sick way would this be to make yourself look skinnier by having a hysterectomy if it even would have that effect??
Even if you would be sure to never want kids (which you can not be sure of at this age), that's not a reason to have a hysterectomy. Your uterus is there for other reaons too, than just to grow babies. There are numerous side effects that come with hysterectomy. You would basically get menopausal symptoms instead at your very young age and that's not what you want either, do you?
I don't advocate the use of synthetic birth control either to control your periods, since those also have numerous harmful side effects(they may also kill your libido permanently as well as a hysterectomy) and don't have your ovaries removed either, because that is equal to castration which I think you don't want either.

Here a few facts about hysterectomy:

FACT: Women experience a loss of physical sexual sensation as a result of hysterectomy.

FACT: A woman's vagina is shortened, scarred and dislocated by hysterectomy.

FACT: Hysterectomy's damage is life-long. Among its most common consequences, in addition to operative injuries are:

heart disease
osteoporosis
bone, joint and muscle pain and immobility
loss of sexual desire, arousal, sensation
painful intercourse, vaginal damage
displacement of bladder, bowel, and other pelvic organs
urinary tract infections, frequency, incontinence
chronic constipation and digestive disorders
profound fatigue
chronic exhaustion
altered body odor
loss of short-term memory
blunting of emotions, personality changes, despondency, irritability, anger, reclusiveness and suicidal thinking
FACT: No drugs or other treatments can replace ovarian or uterine hormones or functions. The loss is permanent.

FACT: The medical term for the removal of the ovaries is castration. 76% of women are castrated at the same time of the hysterectomy.

FACT: The uterus and ovaries function throughout life in women who have not been hysterectomized or castrated.

FACT: 98% of women HERS has referred to board-certified gynecologists after being told they needed hysterectomies, discovered that, in fact, they did not need hysterectomies.

FACT: Gynecologists, hospitals and drug companies make more than 8 billion dollars a year from the business of hysterectomy and castration.

---You may want to try herbal remedies to relieve yourself from PMS.

No reputable surgeon gives an 18 year old a hysterectomy. Go on the birth control pill instead. If the mood swings are really bad talk to your doctor there is help you don't need to put up with it.

They are pills out there from the doctor that will stop your periods ones that will give you a period four times a year. And there is a new one in the States that claims it reduces PMS.

Go and see your doctor. No doctor is going to give you a hysterectomy at such a young age, unless there are serious health issues

there's no longer something you're able to do and a dr wont to a hysterectomy except you have a scientific reason, which i think of is arbitrary reason a guy can get a vasectomy if he needs yet we cant get something completed for us except medically mandatory, or you have already got young infants. even taking a pill isnt going to stop it and the only ingredient which will come close is yaz and you will nevertheless get shorter lighter sessions

they may not do a hysterectomy on you until you get a lot older, I am 30 and I've been trying to get a hysterectomy and they will not do it. Try using the birth control 3 month shot It has stopped my monthly,I can't remember what the name of it is, but if you go to the health clinic and ask for it they will tell you about it. and why is it that you hate kids?

You need to have a medical reason to have a hysterectomy, not just because you don't want mood swings, kids, pms and period pain.

Its really unfortunate that at 18 you want a hysterectomy "just because" and there are people out there that have to have one in order to save their lives.

Possibly skinnier-probably heavier when you are forced to take the necessary hormones to keep your body properly regulated- and you probably wont feel sexy when you see what this does to your skin, hair, nails, sex drive and other aspects of your physical well being. In addition to that you will have to undergo the ill feeling of young women everywhere forced to have hysterectomies because of cancer and real physical problems- their disappointment unimaginable. If you think that a menstrual cycle is unendurable I'd like to see you in the recovery room post this very serious life threatening surgery. The human body is an amazing design and meant to be the chariot of your spirit. That you would so callously disregard the normal functions of your body to circumvent a minor monthly discomfort astounds me. I am glad however that you are choosing not to procreate as you sound not to have the common sense to properly raise children.
