Pinnacle 11 has a minimum of 1.8 but recommends a 2.4 cpu. Others would be about the same. A 2Ghz would work ok but that would be about it. If you're buying a new puter get one with a Quad cpu cuz thats the cpu that eats up video-editing.

This compares a 2.8 P4 against a 2.4 quad and the quad destroys it but you can compare any 2 cpus you want in various benchmarks.

The processor is just one of the requirements for video editing. You will want a 2.4 ghz or better processor.
But you will also want as much memory as possible. 2 gig minimum, or it will take forever to create a video file.
Also, videos tend to be huge in size. So you will need as much hard drive storage space as possible. You will need to have at least double the amount of space free on your hard drive as the size of the file. (Meaning if you are working with a 1 gig file, you will want at least 2 gig of free space on your hard drive.)

you will use up your PSU. get a 750W. - Geforce GTX580 or a quadro card in case you will do video modifying - you desire CUDA (i assume you're utilising Adobe), nicely, possibly a single 520 could do, in spite of the undeniable fact that it relies upon on how plenty time you would be spending on rendering. - blu-ray burner with 3-D - with the help of how, liquid cooling is a discomfort to maintain, replace out liquid each 3 months. air cooling you sparkling cooler each 12 months or so. it somewhat is used for overclocking, and you don't like it, fairly because of the fact the reminiscence you're utilising is common velocity. - you desire far greater disk area than what you have gotten in case you're doing video! get a RAID field for storage. - you will desire to stuff the gadget with max quantity of RAM proc can take care of. get 32GiB(4x8GB ddr3-1333) of RAM. - your networking would be greater effective served with the help of utilising a LAN NIC somewhat than on the spot NIC in case you're importing video. plenty speedier

It's not just about the CPU speed (2+ghz is good), you must consider the system RAM and video RAM as well. You should have at least 1gig of RAM and 256meg of dedicated video ram really :)
