Yes it is okay to drink McDonalds milkshakes. Listeria is in homemade things with raw egg, like most of the other people said. That being said McDonalds would not have that kind of thing in their milkshakes or any of their products in case of lawsuits! Just don't take advantage of that and drink them all the time, any extra weight you gain is going to be that much harder to get off after you have the baby!

Well, better safe than sorry when talking about your unborn child so I would steer clear of soft serve ice cream, soft cheeses, anything containing raw egg, undercooked meat, processed meat products, uncooked vegetable unless you have washed them yourself & can be sure of their cleanliness....
And BTW, listeria has been found in other food stuff. We had a Listeria outbreak in a nursing home here in Australia. The source was canned fruit salad......strange but true.

i work for the company and if there was any listeria in them i am sure we would have been notified ecspecially with all the buzz about it. but you can go online and it will tell you the ingredients contained in the milkshake if that will make you feel better.

The story your sister is telling you has to do with restaurants that did not know you had to clean the machine thoroughly every day. Old shake residue would build up in nooks and crannies and could infect the next batch of shake mix and potentially make someone sick.
If the McDonalds is clean, and you see them cleaning the shake machine in the mornings, you'll probably be fine.

Listeria is found in raw egg. Your fine with macdonalds milkshakes, the onl real danger of Listeria is in home made mayonaise or home made ice cream or something siilar that uses raw egg hun. My craving when i was pregnant was macdonalds chocolate milkshake that I used to dip chips in hahaha & my daughter is 3 now & perfectly healthy, well, shes a lil hyper, but helathy, so go ahead, indulge!!!
Good luck with the bambino!

Yes. It's fine. The risk of getting bacteria from a milkshake is about the same as drinking ordinary milk.

The only real risk of listeria is in homemade things such as mayo. Now, milkshakes probably aren't the healthiest thing for you to be having but I do understand pregnancy cravings as I get them myself. So go ahead and have one, just keep it in moderation.

I did. They are fine.
Listeria is usually from deli meats. Stay away from deli meats (or you can put it in the microwave for 15 seconds and it kills the bacteria) or anything unpasteurized.

You need to be careful with milkshakes and ice creams that come from machines (i,e: ice cream vans). you never know just how clean they are or when they were last cleaned. I was advised by my midwife to avoid them. I had cravings for milkshake, I had Yazoo milkshake with a scoop of icecream in it yummy

macdonalds are not aloud to sell products that are not pasturized. being pasturized gets rid of the bacteria that can cause listeria. aside from that i ate maccy d's all through my first pregnancy and my son is fine and i have through this pregnancy and she seems to be fine (lazy but fine as due today and not come yet)
