You can envy someone and it will be 'here a day, gone a day'. It can still be a distraction and take your inner energy away but it is more like a little child pouting for something he /she cannot have. And then you can have a 'good' envy to where you are inspired to achieve because of someone else's accomplishment/s. Envy is neutral; can go either way.

Jealousy will turn you into a focused person on a mission. Jealousy can be good or bad.......... it's neutral also. A jealous (or 'zealous') person can have the strongest desire for YOUR best interest and be focused on how YOU can get there. The Love may be misunderstood or even unappreciated.
On the other hand, a 'bad' jealous person has NO interest in what YOU want; only in what THEY want. And they will go out of their way to try to mold you into the desire THEY want.

'Bad' Jealousy has been the cause of injury and murder.

Jealousy means you covet the RELATIONSHIP someone has with another person. A girl can be jealous of the relationship her boyfriend has with another girl.

Envy means you covet something they have, whether it be something physical (such as a car), or something more intangible (such as a good job, or talent)

That is the real difference between the two. People who say the words are interchangeable don't understand the meaning of the words.

Envy and jealousy are used interchangably, but to me, it seems that they are actually quite different. Envy is when you are distraught because you are desirous of something that another person possess. Jealousy refers to the emotion when you feel that you are losing something to another that you once possessed yourself. So you would be envious of someone that had a relationship with someone you desired, but jealous if someone "moved in on your turf"

Jealousy needs three people. Envy needs two.

The two seem to be interchangable, but i think that envy tends to be a more gentle and understandable trait. Jelousy would be an irrational feeling not based on reality.

The words are interchangeable. Envy is a much stronger word because sometimes it entails hatred and coveting.

Very diffirent. You can be envious and want something that someone else has, whether it be luck, possessions, etc. To be jealous is when you dont like that the other person has that thing that you want.
