Dombrowski is a genius! Look at what he has done since he took over as President/GM.

This 2008 team could make the '84 Tigers look like pussycats!

I've been a Tiger fan ALL my life (yes, even 2003) and I've never been as geeked as I am right now! I really do think this is OUR year!
Even if we have injuries and slumps (all good teams do) I think we can it handle it better than we did last year because we are stacked.
Your thoughts?

Hold on GP. The new Evil Empire is negotiating a deal for the best pitcher in Baseball. With Johan and Beckett they will be the odds on favorite to squash any team in baseball. I like that you got Cabrera as long as he doesn't eat Venezuela and show up like the cow he did this year. I'm not a big Willis fan any longer he's not as good as everyone thought he was. Plus NL pitchers don't do well going to the AL. See Javier Vasquez, Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano etc etc. On paper it looks great and I know youre GEEKED to the max but simmer down the Dreadsox are coming.

I'm having a hard time with people saying "maybe" the scariest lineup in baseball. Why maybe? I think hands down they are the scariest. This lineup makes the Yankees look like a minor league club.

1. Curtis Granderson. - Should have been in the running for AL MVP. Speed, power, and cutting down his strike outs. Hit HOW MANY triples last year???!?! Underrated as a fielder.
2. Placido Polanco - Over and over you hear how he is the player that teams fear facing with men in scoring position. He WILL get on base. He does all the little things, plays flawless second base, and is the prototypical number 2 guy in the lineup.
3. Miguel Cabrera. Better numbers than A-rod at this point in his career. Scary power.
4. Magglio Ordonez. If A-Rod wasn't superhuman, he'd of had the AL MVP no question. Unbelievable hitter.
5. Gary Sheffield. The quickest bat in baseball. Should be healthy this year.
6. Carlos Guillen. Another underratted guy. Hits equal from both sides of the plate. Hits for power.
7. Edgar Rentaria - How many .300 + batters are on this team? Should benefit from big Comerica. I predict a lot of doubles from his bat this year.
8. Pudge - Pudge batting 8th. He would bat 3rd in a lot of lineups. Still a great clutch hitter. May not top the .300 mark, but with the cannon behind the plate and how well he works with young pitchers, who cares?!
9. Marcus Thames
Jacque Jones All quality players.
TImo Perez .
Brandon Inge?

This is who the tiger's can lineup against every pitcher. With this much power, it takes a lot of pressure of the Tiger's pitchers. I think we'll see the D-Train of old in Motown.

GO TIGER's

the following is my fantastic wager: a million. Curtis Granderson 2. Placido Polanco 3. Miguel Cabrera 4. Magglio Ordonez 5. Gary Sheffield 6. Carlos Guillen 7. Edgar Renteria 8. Pudge Rodriguez 9. Jones/Thames/Raburn regardless of the particular undeniable actuality that, i imagine the three-6 spots may have a number of different combos (3. Sheff, 4. Cabrera, 5. Maggs, 6. Guillen, etc.).

This is our year. Tigers have 2 new great players!!! Willis is a fantastic pitcher! That was a very smart trade! I just got tickets to Tigerfest where you meet the players on January 12th. The world series will be won be the Detroit Tigers. I've been sitting in my office all day today saying that we will win it this year! I'm so excited!

Congrats GP. I thought of you last night when I heard it on the news and said to myself, he is going to be very excited. I think the Tigers do have a very good chance this year for sure. I know if this was any other team you would think the same way, but I would contain my excitement for Willis until he proves he can face American League Pitchers. His ERA has been creeping up every year with last year being his worst at 5.17. That is a scary thought going into a better hitting league. The only other bad thing about this trade? Pretty much the majority of what you had as prospects in the farm system is gone with this trade. I am not to familiar with how well your team does as far as scouting for young talent, but we all know how important it is to have prospects in farm system...Just hope that won't hurt the Tigers for years to come.

I got to give kuddo's to Dombrowski he managed to pull off a blockbuster deal....The Tigers are a stacked team.....Slumps Injuries are going to occur but as long as Tigers gel as a team and keep playing ball there is no reason why they can not win it.....But do think giving up all that talent is going to come back and haunt the Tigers in the future??

Georgie; the trade isn't complete.... yet. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. The Tigers may be great if the trade goes through. They might be the Yankees 2007 of the AL Central also, you never know.

Ozgard - the "Evil Empire" backed out of the Santana deal, and they do not have Beckett either!

The Tigers have enough on paper at least to win the whole thing in 2008. I knew you would be super excited about this move lol.

I have to say, if I were a Tigers fan, I'd be real excited. However, why Todd Jones remains your closer, I will never understand. But I look forward to my Red Sox meeting your Tigers in the ALCS; that will be a great series.

They are going to be a good team...right now I would say if all players play to their potential I think the Indians and Tigers will be fighting for the division all year and whoever loses will be the Wild Card.
