why does this happen? I am sure it's causing our ceilings to crack but could it cause more damage. There is one lorry that goes past at 5am and my bed actually shakes. The council say there is nothing they can do. Who is liable if there is any damage?

my parents had same problem, it was down to a pothole in the road, have a look along the road and see if you can see any dips in it that the lorry could be hitting. if there is get in touch with your local council highways department and explain the problem youre having.

Let the council put some speed humps in the road, that will force the lorries to slow down. Its the high speed that they drive that makes the house shudder. Write a letter of complaint and keep record of everything.

The moral of the story is Don't Build Your House So Close To The Roadway. Why do people build their homes in dumb places then complain that it is someone else's fault when the trucks or airplanes are to loud? Do some research before you build or buy a home. It will save a lot of headaches.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

I would say that you need to get a surveyor round to check this out, as the consequences could be serious. I suppose that if you own the house then this is your responsibility, but, I'm not an expert.
