if you're travelling to meath stay in the east side of the city if possible because then you wont have to try to deal with the traffic in galway which can be an absolute nightmare!....The Travelodge usually has decent enough priced rooms....There's also plenty of reasonably priced B&B's around the city....just go to goldenpages.ie & type in B&B's Galway & it should provide you with a list....January also shouldnt be too expensive regardless because it's off-peak season....

Best Bet for you is a (5min cab ride) outside of the Galway /City limits (just past Salthill in Barna), that is unless you have 50-90 Euro a night stay in the city....

Never stay at a Hostel ! You can't be that desperate, if so don't travel.

The Place is located on R336 West of Galway 'Abbeyville B&B' They are the nicest people I stayed with. Stayed twice a week apart from each other, while traveling all over Ireland for 3-wks this past Sept.

They are the Ryan's, they run a clean, compfortable B&B. Plus, your own private shower, prvt. parking, very close to Galway, Connamara beautiful area.

BONUS: Walk 2 min 2 traffic light in town have a pint @ a 4-star Hotel Bar " The Twelve " Tell Bartending mngr Jerzeygal sent you & said to ask for a Heavenly Cocktail...He'll laugh & prob. buy you a pint himself "James" Orig. Londen

There are lots of B&Bs in Galway, you shouldn't have any problem finding a place to sleep for 1 night in the city during January. Just parking might be an issue.

You could try Hollywood's B&B on Forster Street, I've stayed there and it's okay.
