Arts based group at local village centre. Tonight. Wednesday.
Any ideas for readings based on Christmas theme. Not exclusively Bible stories.

I wasn't being patronising describing the group as slightly senior ( i am one myself ) just wanted to get suggestions appropriate to age group.

Back from party. Thanks for sugestions. Tried the banana one. Went great. Next time I'll have more preparation time . Your Idea of spin the bottle with variations ( where it lands you get a slug of poteen / whisky ) might be fun except we don't all live in walking, or staggering distance of the village.
For next time how do you play balderdash please ?

Having just retired I assume I would be one of your guests. What I would like to do most probably you have already thought of.

Besides socialising as a new activity you could have an "in promptu" quiz., where all the teams have got to produce a small number of questions.
If you have music available you could also have some sottish dancing I am sure you can find one or two couples who are prepared to run it.
The other one I can think of(particularly if there is food available) is a wine or bear testing competition.
With some of the above you can even make a bit of money for the local charities.

As far as non-"Bible" readings, now about the two short books written by Jan Karon in her Christmas in Mitford set (The Mitford Snowmen and Ester's Gift.) Many folks read this series and would find these stories enjoyable. Also Guidepost has a book of short Christmas stories. These are not "bible" stories but do have a very positive theme.

Can't think of any good games except maybe the old standby Charades, Or truth or dare. We always play Uno Attack, that's hysterical fun.

There is a really good old classic story that you seldom hear any more, O'Henry's Gift of the Magi. I love Dickens Christmas Carol and read it every year, but sometimes it's fun to have something different.

Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol comes to mind of course but perhaps a little too obvious.

All the seniors I know that come to this site are more into sex & mayhem then the party games you mention.
Not to mention being slightly senior is a mind set not an age.
Yup! The folks I know here would rather do wine, women, men, & song (xrated type) then sit around for a reading.

How about musical trivia questions from the 40's ,50's and 60's . I enjoy trying to remember the artists who sang certain songs . It could be on a Christmas theme, ex. who sang I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus? --- ans. Jimmy Boyd.

Sing theme tunes from famous films using only the word banana.
