Most people who like fruitcake have a high tolerance for toxic poisoning and systemic organ failure--which is to say they could survive blood poisoning, severe intestinal blockage, and kidney failure. Those are the superheroes who like eating fruitcake.

Fruit cake you get premade at the stores seem pretty gross, but my mom always made a fruit cake, with this rum sauce which was delicious! It didn't look like what most people think of at all. It was sort of like a spice cake, with nuts and things, and the sauce, and of course the pieces of fruit inside. It was almost similar to a Sticky Pudding, but firmer. Delicious! There are some good recipes out there you can try.

The only fruit cake I really like is the kind my mother-in-law makes. It's a light fruitcake and doesn't contain any of that nasty candied citron that tastes so bitter! She soaks it in an excellent quality of brandy, and it's really delicious!

it depends on the herbs in your system and the liquid the cake is marinated in...
actually, my grandmother loved fruitcake. an acquired taste maybe?

I won't touch the nasty looking stuff even though my mother made it every year, I don't and I don't know of anyone that would like it, GROSS!
