Ok, the directions say before I use this thing for the first time, that I should open the drain valve and let the motor run for 15 minutes first ( i.e. without any pressure in the tank, etc.)

In the directions, they indicate counter clockwise to open the drain valve. My question is, when I turn the valve counter clockwise, the bolt that glides in the threads of the fill valve goes deeper and deeper in the tank.

I would assume that the further the bolt screws into the tank, the more the valve is closing

and vice versa, when I screw the bolt away from the tank ( as if the bolt would adventually fall out if I kept on going), this logically appears to be opening the valve.

Do I have this correct, or does this drain valve work the opposite way?

I have both a Campbell and a Honda and both valves turn counter clockwise to release pressure and drain water/moisture.

I'll also assume however that William might be correct depending on Brand.

All that aside...IF the valve is on the bottom of the tank; which it should be; AND you don't "FLIP the Turtle onto its shell"; AND you OPEN it to release; it will SEEM as if you're turning it in a clockwise direction.

Lefty Loosey/Righty Tighty is pretty much a trade standard OTHER THAN certain tool items such as CHUCKS etc. that are often connected in the opposite direction of the Tools normal motion/spin.

I often notice a variation in tightness of a Friction drill chuck, when applying its action in reverse.

Air Compressor Drain Valve

My compressor is a Campbells Hausfield, but counter clockwise brings the fitting out like you would guess and also opens it. Really it is just like a little faucett.

Why don't you just do what looks good to you and then turn the compressor on and feel around the drain? If air is spurting out, then you have it open, if not, turn it the other way.

They just want you to do that to get rid of condensation in the tank.

Have fun, you will never want to be without a compressor again!

Most valves open counter-clockwise. It won't hurt anything if you just turn the compressor on and then open the valve. This way, you will know for future reference.

most drain valves for air opens into the tank, water valves open out from the tank, air is harder to seal than water,
