Minimum Security and Maximum Security. How it is decided which prisoners go to which?

I have a general idea......but I need someone to be more specific.

murderers, viscous crimes against children, highend robbers or imbezelers, crimes where someone may have caused serious damage to someone ie attempted murder, these would all be maximum

simple assault, excessive dui, petty theft, destruction of property depending on the amount of damage- that would be minimum- stealing a car would be min - here's jhust a few

if they are a danger to themselvea and others, have threatened to commit suicide or are in prison because of murder or rape then the are in high decurity, but if they are gettong ready to be released, on remand or have just done a minor cime then they are on low security
