Well start with a few basic tricks in a methodical pattern:
1. Can you combine just pure numbers?
2. Can you combine like terms?
3. Can you push terms to other side?
4. If the coefficent in front of a term isn't 1,divide all terms by it
Just repeat this basic pattern until you get to the final answer. Later it may get more complex, but right now these are all that is needed.
So 10x+4=24+5
Step 1. Can you combine pure numbers?
Sure 24 and 5 on the right side can just be added
10x+4=[24+5]
10x+4=29
Step 2. Can you combine like terms?
Nope, not yet, there is only one x term.
Step 3. Can you push terms to other side?
Sure, lets get rid of that 4 on the left. So we subtract 4 from BOTH sides.
[10x+4]-4=[29]-4
10x=25
Step 4.
Is 10 = 1? Nope, so divide BOTH sides by it
[10x]/10 = [25]/10
x=2.5
And you are all done.
Hope that helps.
