With prolonged use, yes it does. Polish dries out nails, causing them to become brittle and discolored.

Good nail polishes dont. The really cheap ones do. You should always put a first coating of clear nail polish then the colored one. I use 'Sally Hansen's' and its great!
If you want your nails to be pretty and unbreakable.. soak them in olive oil with lemon. gL x

No, it doesn't.Ofcourse, never use very sub-standard brand and while removing the old nail polish , use nail polish remover of standard brand.

Polish may discolor nails but it doesn't damage them. If anything, it helps to strengthen them.

my mum told me prolong use will discolour our nails and that was what happened to her when she was still young and crazy over coloured nails.
but for my case, i've keep my toe nails coloured for months already. and it's still pretty much the original colour.
so i guess, nail polishes have improved over the years and now it wont do much damage to our nails.

put a base coat on your nails before you apply nail varnish and it will be fine

no i think it protects them as it puts a coat on them which stops dirt sitting on them and prevents them from getting damaged
