What's so special about Miley Cyrus? She seems just like any other kid but with a voice of a 40 year old smoker.

I'm not judging. I'm just curious about the phenomena.

I found an academic paper discussing the phenomena:
http://www.ohiolink.edu/etd/send-pdf.cgi?bgsu1143408809
According to this paper, Disney has a strategy that they have used since the 1950s (i.e. with Annette Funicello), where they create a star/ordinary girl persona. This appeals to their viewers who are ordinary people but dream of becoming a star. Through watching the show, they believe they too can become a star. Like with Annette, Disney tries to blurr the life of the actress with that of the character she plays. That is why Miley is called Miley both in real life and on the show. When she auditioned for the show, the name of the character was originally Zoe. I think that the Disney marketing strategy is very clever.

Hannah Montana has the life every teenager dreams of, i know this because when i was a young teen me too would dream about what i wanted to do with my life and Miley has it all, we all like to dream about things that we want to achieve, this show gives teenagers like my younger sister who is a teen herself something to hold on to that there may be a chance (very unlikely might i add) but we all got to dream its what gets us through life i suppose.

Pop culture, since there is always pre-teen stars who burst onto the scene...with very few having solid careers as their audience grows up. But her success is phenominal....the concert tour is definitely the biggest - and surprising - in a slumping year for the music industry. Not even the corporate types at Disney could have predicted this and that's why there has been so much controversy with the cncert tickets at most venues.

Not all preteen girls. my two year old cousin loves Hanna Montana as well. Plus it's catered towards their age demographic. I'm assuming you think you're better than them because you think Miley Cyrus is a LOSER. but she's not. and I can remember being a preteen and liking things in the media, we're all guilty of it. aside from that I've grown out of that phase much like those girls will. So don't judge them so harshly.

The show is a big wish-fulfillment thing: Every little girl who ever sang into her hairbrush would love the show, because they are identifying with this girl that gets to be on stage. I think the show is cute. If I were 20 years younger, I'd probably really love it.

How very mean of you to say that...
To answer your question.
She has morals, her own personality, great songs, a good show, a fairy-tale life, is a little crazy, loves life and is very talented.
It's not only preteens who like her.
I'm 15 and am proudly Miley's number one fan!!!

Because she gets to wear wigs and sing and wave at people in her adoring crowd, is looked at as talented....etc.
Young girls can live that fantasy vicariously through Hanna Montana.

Relax, it's probably just another pre-teen fad. What happened to 'Lizzie Maguire', Barbie dolls and Polly Pockets?
