Strawberries grow on plants, and Chicago is in the midwest, and yes you can grow and buy strawberry plants in the midwest. They are out of season right now though, being that it is winter there. If you are in Chicago (the midwest) I am surprised that you do not know this. Locate a hardware store, or a gardening store, you can go to the rack of seeds, pick out the seeds, and then you can grow your own plants in the spring. I think it will take 2 or 3 years before you will get strawberries tp pick though, and you will need a couple packs of seeds so you can plant enough to get pollinated.

i am in the south burbs of chicago.. they are out of season now.. but you can buy the seeds online.... and start the plant in doors. if you dont want to do that wait till the spring and walmart will have them kmart has them.. lowes, menards, and home depot.... good luck!
