I don't remember if it was SciAm or WIRED, but some magazine rated that movie What the Bleep do we know? as one of the ten worst pseudoscience movies.
And no, they're not affected by thoughts. The crystals are inconsistent because particulate suspended / dissolved in the water prevents symmetric crystal growth.

I think that Dr. Emoto might partake of weed. I have heard of this concept before. There might be something to it on a small scale. There have been experiments when thousands of people attempted to change things through consciousness awareness. There is no documented success. There is a loon on late night radio that claims it, but he is also trying to find the hidden alien bodies that the government has.
